Position Summary
The Estimator will be responsible for preparing accurate and competitive bids for structural steel projects. This role involves reviewing drawings, specifications, and project requirements to provide detailed cost estimates. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of steel fabrication and erection, industry standards, and strong attention to detail.
Key Responsibilities
Review architectural and structural drawings, specifications, and bid documents for accuracy and scope. Prepare detailed cost estimates, including materials, labor, equipment, and subcontractors. Analyze project risks and provide value-engineering solutions. Develop and maintain relationships with vendors, subcontractors, and clients. Participate in pre-bid meetings, site visits, and client presentations as needed. Collaborate with the project management and operations teams to ensure accurate project hand-offs. Track market trends and pricing to ensure competitive and profitable estimates. Assist in developing budgets and proposals for negotiated projects. Qualifications
5+ years of experience as an Estimator in structural steel fabrication and erection. Strong knowledge of steel detailing, fabrication processes, and erection methods. Ability to interpret blueprints, drawings, and technical specifications. Proficiency in estimating software (e.g., FabTrol, Tekla EPM, Bluebeam, or equivalent). Excellent math, analytical, and problem-solving skills. Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple bids simultaneously. Effective written and verbal communication skills. Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field preferred (or equivalent work experience).
