Overview

The Shelton Leadership Center and the Red Hat Shelton Challenge program seek a temporary Shelton Challenge Coach/Mentor/Trainer (CMT) to support camp activities on the NC State University campus in Raleigh, NC. The Red Hat Shelton Challenge is a six-day, residential program for rising ninth through twelfth grade students, designed to develop values-based leadership. Camps are held at NC State University on the following dates: June 8-13, 2025; June 22-27, 2025; July 13-18, 2025. Responsibilities Coach/Mentor/Trainers (CMT) guide teams, facilitate reflections, and evaluate team performance, bringing college-level enthusiasm to the Challenge. Help participants develop leadership skills such as teamwork, communication, ethical decision-making, civic and social responsibility, and goal setting. As a CMT, deepen your own leadership while building professional skills in teamwork, communication, and critical thinking, and help shape young minds. Prior Shelton Challenge experience is preferred but not required. Compensation: a one-time payment of $600; wages taxed accordingly.

Requirements and Qualifications

Work Schedule: Schedules vary based on program needs. Camp days typically run 7:30 am to 8-9 pm, with an additional full day of training, totaling six days of camp activity. Office hours require a full week commitment (six days plus training). Minimum Education: High school diploma or equivalent. Minimum Experience/Skills: Must be a college student; commit to a full week of camp activities (six days) plus approximately 10 hours of staff training scheduled during May; strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and the ability to work in a team environment.
