Situated on a former farm, the Schiller Coastal Studies Center at Bowdoin College offers 2.5 miles of rocky shoreline and 118 acres of coastal spruce-pine forest and fields. With access to the Gulf of Maine, a variety of natural habitats, and well-equipped science and residential facilities, students and faculty can study biology, earth and oceanographic science, and environmental science. Bowdoin College is seeking a Facilities Maintenance Technician for the Schiller Coastal Studies Center (SCSC) to support the maintenance of grounds, buildings, waterfront infrastructure, and building systems. This position plays a vital role in ensuring the functionality, safety, and appearance of the Center. Key Responsibilities include (but are not limited to): Maintain grounds, including mowing, brush removal, minor road repairs, and equipment upkeep Coordinate maintenance activities performed by College trade shops or external contractors Perform life safety checks (e.g., fire extinguishers, eyewash stations, water testing) Provide maintenance and logistical support for research operations (e.g., cleaning tanks, pigging lines, assembling/disassembling piping, filtration maintenance) Maintain waterfront infrastructure, including dock and moorings Perform light carpentry, including repairs to buildings, docks, decks, roofing, siding, windows, doors, and painting Serve as a customer service representative at SCSCresponding to questions and resolving issues for students, faculty, researchers, and visitors Provide event support, including set-up and logistical coordination The hourly rate for this position is $20 per hour. Education/Skills Requirements: High School or GED equivalent A valid driver's license and the ability to meet the requirements of the College's Motor Vehicle Use Policy Ability to work independently using sound judgment to complete necessary workload Strong customer service skills to work with faculty, staff, visitors, and contractors at the Center Excellent communication and problem-solving skills Ability to work with team both at the Center and with various departments on campus Experience Requirements and/or Equivalents: At least one year of relevant experience Experience in groundskeeping, landscaping, mechanical systems, carpentry, or related trades is highly preferred Applicants must meet the minimum qualifications in this posting to be considered for hire. Standard Work Days and Hours: This is an on-site, part-time, non-benefit-eligible position. The ideal applicant will be available to work fewer than 20 hours per week between 7:00 a.m. and 3:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, for 10 weeks in the Fall semester and 14 weeks in the Spring semester. Evening, weekend, and holiday work may be required.
