The

Mechanical Cost Estimator

is responsible for developing accurate and competitive cost estimates for mechanical systems used in manufacturing assembly equipment. This includes evaluating customer specifications, reviewing concept designs, calculating material and labor costs, and collaborating with design and engineering teams to ensure all aspects of the mechanical solution are captured in the proposal. The role plays a critical part in supporting the sales and proposal process by delivering timely and well-documented cost estimates. Responsibilities: Analyze customer RFQs, technical specifications, and conceptual designs to determine mechanical scope of work. Develop detailed cost estimates for mechanical components, assemblies, fabrication, and labor. Collaborate with mechanical engineering, controls, and manufacturing teams to validate estimate assumptions. Identify potential design risks, material challenges, and manufacturability concerns early in the quoting phase. Source material and component pricing from suppliers and internal databases. Prepare comprehensive cost summaries and support documentation for proposal submissions. Support proposal and project management teams during customer reviews, clarifications, and design changes. Maintain historical cost data and contribute to continuous improvement of estimating tools and processes. Qualifications:

Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or related field is preferred. 2+ years of experience in mechanical estimating, mechanical design, or equipment manufacturing (automation experience preferred). Solid understanding of mechanical design principles, manufacturing processes, and industrial assembly equipment. Proficient in CAD software (e.g., MicroSoft Office, AutoCAD) to review and interpret design drawings. Experience with cost estimating software and ERP systems. Familiarity with robotics, welding fixtures, conveyors, or other automation components. Ability to work independently under tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment. Strong analytical and organizational skills with attention to detail. Effective communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with cross-functional teams and customers.
