The Role: More Than an Assistant Principal
This is not a typical administrative position. This role combines
instructional leadership with operational oversight
, offering the unique opportunity to shape the academic and cultural direction of our middle school program. The ideal candidate is a transformative leader who will bring both vision and hands-on experience in charter school education, with a deep understanding of how to support the unique developmental needs of middle school students.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Lead Instructional Excellence
Coach and develop teachers through regular observation, feedback, and co-teaching
Drive data-informed decision-making to enhance student achievement
Support innovative teaching practices including Universal Design for Learning (UDL), Project Based Learning, and dual language instruction
Create opportunities for student exhibition and performance
Champion best practices that align with the flexible, student-centered approach that charter schools are known for
Shape School Culture
Foster a middle school environment that celebrates diversity and creates a sense of belonging
Lead a student Leadership Course to develop future change-makers
Collaborate on school-wide initiatives that engage our diverse community
Design and implement activities that spark joy and student engagement
Drive Operational Success
Oversee campus operations and staff supervision
Coordinate assessment and testing programs
Manage special education services and intervention programs
Build strong partnerships with families and community organizations
Qualifications: Qualifications

Ideal Candidate Profile _
We seek candidates who demonstrate:
Proven success in middle school education (charter schools preferred) and a genuine passion for working with young adolescents
Minimum of 5 years of charter school mentorship and academic coaching experience
California Teaching Credential
required
(bilingual authorization a plus)
Administrative Credential preferred

Fluency ** in Spanish and English (including academic vocabulary)
Deep commitment to social justice and educational equity
Experience with project-based and culturally responsive pedagogie

Start Date and Transition _
Spring 2025 start to ensure a comprehensive onboarding and smooth transition into the 2025-26 academic year.
Additional Information

Professional Growth and Compensation **
Salary Range: $100,000 - $130,000 (based on experience)
100% employee medical/dental coverage
50% family medical/dental coverage
CalSTRS contribution
Collaborative, mission-driven work environme
MLC’s Board policy requires all staff to provide evidence of clearance with the Department of Justice and a current TB test.
