Under the general direction of the District Division Chief of the Division of Land Surveys, a Supervising Transportation Surveyor, the Senior Transportation Surveyor plans, organizes, supervises, and directs the work of office staff assigned to a variety of surveying related projects throughout District 11, or as needed. Acts as a liaison between Right of Way Engineering, other land surveys teams, other Caltrans Functional units, Headquarters, other public agencies, and the general public. Possession of a valid California Land Surveyor's License is required. Incumbent is the Custodian of District 11 Right of Way records and project Asbuilt records.

Working Conditions

Position located at 4050 Taylor Street San Diego 92110, San Diego County.

Multiple positions may be filled from this recruitment.

While at the base of operation, the incumbent works in a climate-controlled environment under artificial light. However due to periodic issues with heating and air conditioning, the building temperature may fluctuate. Multi-floor buildings are equipped with stairs and elevators. The incumbent may be required to travel overnight to Imperial County and may also be required to travel to meetings in other parts of the State. Travel may be by automobile or commercial conveyances such as airlines or trains.

New to State candidates will be hired into the minimum salary of the classification or minimum of alternate range when applicable.

Special Requirements

Possession of a valid California Land Surveyors' License. (A Certificate of Registration as a Civil Engineer issued by the California Board of Registration for Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors prior to January 1, 1982 satisfies this requirement.) Possession of a valid driver's license is required when operating a State owned or leased vehicle.

Statement of Qualifications (SOQ) is a discussion of how an applicant's education, training, experience, and skills meet the criteria in the duty statement and qualify the applicant for the position. Provide examples that demonstrate your experience balancing multiple priorities, meeting strict deadlines, hiring, training, motivating, mentoring, and supervising staff. Include your experience fostering a team environment, building relationships, monitoring, estimating, assigning tasks, and delivering products to support the quality and timely delivery of a large portfolio of projects. Provide examples that demonstrate your experience performing research, boundary / title analysis, map preparation, boundary determination, monument perpetuation, boundary monumentation, control surveys, deed writing, producing / maintaining alignments, construction plan interpretation, producing / maintaining Geographic Information Systems data, managing construction as-builts, survey project files, and title records. Provide examples that demonstrate your experience using Caltrans Surveying software, including engineering design software, AutoCAD Civil3D, Microstation, Trimble Business Center, ArcGIS, plotter/scanner/document applications, and Microsoft Office Suite. Provide examples of your knowledge and/or experience in Land Surveying Techniques for both field and office including safety, mathematical / legal principles related to boundary surveying, Caltrans property acquisition / disposal standards, Caltrans encroachment permit support, Caltrans design standards, Caltrans legal support, land development review support, and interpreting Caltrans project plans. Possession of Minimum Qualifications will be verified prior to interview and/or appointment.
