Salt Lake Community College seeks a full-time faculty to join a vital and innovative department as its members are reflective practitioners and knowledgeable teachers in their respective fields. They participate in their professional communities and collaborate with colleagues in developing curriculum. Such faculty members actively serve our students in successfully obtaining the skills and knowledge needed to be successful in their careers.

The faculty will work in a multi-modal program serving students in scheduled classes, open lab instruction, and off-site clinical rotations. This will include variable shifts in a Monday through Saturday work week between the hours of 6am to 11pm.

The instructor will provide instruction in the training courses offered through the Medical Assistant department using a variety of teaching methods and media to meet different learning styles to prepare students for certification and employment in healthcare settings. In addition to instruction the faculty will be involved in development of new curriculum, updating existing curriculum, mentor adjunct faculty, fulfill departmental and school assignments, and maintain all required department and school meetings.

The successful candidate will need to adapt to a variety of teaching situations, locations, and have the ability to work effectively with students, colleagues, staff and others in a way that promotes professionalism and understanding. Provide effective student-centered instruction and assessment. Alongside department colleagues, build a process of continuous quality improvement for relevant programs. Comply with all college employee policies and procedures. Comply with the Academic Freedom, Professional Responsibility, and Tenure policy. Comply with FERPA policy and other pertinent local, state, and federal regulations. Maintain professional communication etiquette with students. Become a contributing member of the academic unit by engaging in collegial communications and working closely with colleagues and academic supervisors to enhance student success. Maintain a meaningful on-campus presence to enhance community, serve students on campus, and collaborate with colleagues. Campus presence can reflect teaching, professional activities, and/or service as established with your academic supervisor. Work to address student issues as outlined in the Code of Students Rights and Responsibilities. Engage in shared governance. Engage in and contribute to curriculum development and/or process. Establish and maintain teaching and assessment resources to support performance-based hands-on assignments that mimic industry. Support students in the completion of the program, passing licensure/certification exams, and job placement. Engage in course and program assessment, including a comparison of program costs, completion rates, job placement, and licensure data with other USHE institutions, with the aim of enhancing student success, employment outcomes, and maintaining accreditation standards. In collaboration with administration, assist with collecting data metrics such as completion, placement, and licensure information. Engage in the faculty evaluation process annually. Attend, and participate in, required meetings and events, including Convocation, Commencement, SLCC 360, and department meetings. Promote the mission, vision, values, and goals of the College through inclusive teaching, professional activity, and service. Faculty in SLTECH work on a 12-month staff calendar schedule. The expectation is a 40-hour work week with 30 Instructional Workload hours Must be able to safely lift up to 50 lbs unassisted. Teaching: Create a learning environment focused on student success for each modality taught. In the case of online instruction, facilitate regular and substantive interaction in online courses conducted and observable in the official LMS. Teach courses consistent with institutional and department standards, appropriate Course Curriculum Outline (CCO), and catalog description. Use the college-approved syllabus platform to inform students of course policies and learning outcomes. Teach classes assigned by the academic supervisor per the published class schedule, adhering to days, times, and duration. Demonstrates the incorporation of active and applied learning in courses taught. Provide appropriate feedback for all assignments that allows students to progress in the course. Maintain current grades in the college learning management system (LMS, eg, Canvas). Use the LMS communication tool as the primary tool for course communication with students. Responds to instruction and daily needs of students, departments, college, and community. Be available to meet with students outside of class a minimum of 5 hours/week for student consultation hours. Availability should reflect the modality of the class and utilize online tools to maximize student access. Consistently improve pedagogy, course quality, design, and course integrity in response to course, program, and/or college-wide assessment of student learning. Maintain student last day of attendance (for Financial Aid purposes). Conduct formative evaluations of student performance by the last day to drop. Publishes course schedule, assignment due dates, late and grading policies, and communication expectations in the learning management system. Assist in maintaining a safe and mutually respectful instructional environment. Prepare and submit incident reports to the Dean of Student Services for inappropriate student behavior as defined by the Code of Student Rights and Responsibilities Policy. Use appropriate resources and technology in the delivery of courses. Respond to student communication promptly (generally within 1-2 working days) and have a communication plan posted in the LMS with response times. Professional Activity and Development Stay current in the field and maintain necessary credentials, professional skills, and teaching competencies consistent with department standards. Collaborate with colleagues by soliciting feedback and responding to suggestions from students and colleagues on pedagogy and the learning environment. Engage in discipline-specific activities. Expand knowledge of teaching practices to enhance student learning and success. Participate in mentoring relationships, serving as a mentor and/or mentee in the department and college. Participate in mandatory departmental and college professional development. Service to the college Provide service to the institution through appropriate participation in academic and college committee assignments and departmental and college need. Senior faculty serve on review sitting committees for colleagues; provide leadership and instructional integrity through classroom observation and mentoring. Experienced SLTech full-time faculty will support new faculty members as they transition from their industry roles and grow and develop as educators. Work with the department to review and recommend program textbooks and/or materials. Engage in the student advising process, formally and/or informally as needed. Develop and/or participate in student recruitment and/or retention strategies. Assist with the assessment of credit for prior learning as needed. Participate in the formulation and implementation of department initiatives. Mentor and provide formative feedback to adjunct faculty. Serve community partners as content area experts as appropriate. Maintain inventory, if appropriate, of equipment, tools, supplies, and storage/ disposal of hazardous materials required for classes and request appropriate equipment repair. Improve and update equipment and systems to reflect current industry Activities/Standards/Trends/Technology. Actively participate with your department in the informed budget process by identifying budgetary needs, priorities, and opportunities to reduce or reallocate existing funds. Ability to communicate effectively with a broad range of diverse people, culture, ethnic background, and abilities, to maintain good working relationships across the College. Ability to work with all groups in a diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural and ethnic background of community college students, faculty and staff, including those with disabilities. All Faculty will maintain an on-site campus presence to encourage in-person relationships and create engaging, meaningful, and impactful learning experiences. You are required to maintain professional boundaries with all SLCC students. Minimum qualifications

Hold a valid NCCA recognized medial assisting credential. These include CMA(AAMA), RMA(AMT), NCMA(NCCT), CCMA(NHA). Have a minimum of 2 years experience working as a medical assistant, with experience in both clinical and administrative functions. Preferred Qualifications

Undergraduate degree in related field from an accredited college or university. Experience teaching at a post-secondary level. Experience supervising lab skills and clinical rotations. Experience working with programmatic accrediting bodies such as CAAHEP or ABHES.
