Job Description
The Assistant Purchaser supports procurement and material expediting needs for active projects throughout the entire project lifecycle-from RFP development to approved PO, field delivery, and project closeout. This position primarily supports a
utility client program
with a strong focus on
material coordination and tracking , and offers opportunities for
growth in procurement and project management
functions.
Responsibilities Assist with the preparation of major materials/services RFP packages (e.g., Pricing Forms, Scope of Work, Instructions to Bidders) Manage or assist with minor RFPs: solicit quotes, level responses, and make purchase recommendations Support portfolio-level demand planning and forecasting for materials and subcontracted services Analyze purchasing data such as past orders, supplier spend, anomalies, and process compliance Prepare Key Performance Indicator (KPI) reports for quarterly supplier meetings Assist with requisitioning, reviewing, expediting, delivering, and returning materials for projects Align industry lead times with project need dates and recommend purchase schedules Track supplier production schedules and ensure milestone adherence Maintain material status reports and procurement-related reporting for project teams Attend project status meetings and communicate material updates to internal stakeholders Notify the team of potential fabrication/shipment delays Coordinate transportation and lifting plan communication from suppliers to jobsites Support delivery scheduling at multiple sites Help identify and report supplier discrepancies Aid in collecting final documentation to complete payment milestones Perform other duties as assigned Ensure compliance with company policies and standards Qualifications
Education:
Bachelor's degree in Business, Engineering, Construction Management, or related field (or equivalent experience) Skills & Experience:
Strong written and verbal communication skills Proficiency in Excel (pivot tables, advanced formulas) Familiarity with procurement software, PowerBI, Microsoft Forms, and AI tools preferred Detail-oriented and organized Confident presenter with the ability to clearly explain ideas to internal and external stakeholders Self-starter who works independently with minimal supervision Team-oriented and proactive mindset Travel Requirement:
0-25% travel to client sites in RI, PA, and KY Benefits
