Safety Manager

What You'll Be Doing:

Shall possess in depth knowledge of various Navy, NIOSH, NAVSEA Inactive Ship On-site Maintenance Office, OSHA, EPA, and other publications that describe in detail procedures for the required inspections. Shall have detailed knowledge of the provisions of NAVSEA INACTSHIPOFF Portsmouth, VA, Environmental and Occupational Safety Manual, be familiar with proper personnel and material decontamination procedures, and have a working knowledge of various regulations and instructions regarding the proper handling of radium sources. Shall be qualified to perform lead and other hazardous material surveys by current Naval Standards. Be qualified in gas free engineering/testing procedures and requirements. The Safety, Health and Environmental Manager shall be a competent person as defined by 29CFR1915. Shall conduct near miss, accident, and injury investigations. Author detailed finding reports and recommendations to prevent reoccurrence. Responsible for administering the health program of the Contractor per the Safety and Health Program Plan. Review and Approve JHAs for briefing. Focus on safety. Provide a work environment that reduces to zero the number of lost workdays, injuries, and accidents. Monitor and survey assigned and to be assigned vessels, equipment, and property within the NAVSEA Inactive Ship On-site Maintenance Office for hazardous conditions, materials, and chemicals such as asbestos, lead, PCB, radiation, and gas-filled spaces. Provide the leadership and management necessary to achieve the highest levels of performance in the following areas: safety, health, environmental protection, sub-contract solicitation and management. Conduct daily, weekly, and monthly safety inspections or designate another safety team member. Execute necessary cost control procedures designed to properly estimate, execute, and account for all tasks performed. Submit required budget and financial reports to Project Manager for review. Monitor outside services obtained by the Contractor for health, safety, and environmental protection. Ensure that environmental laws and regulations are adhered to. Effectively communicate and coordinate with all individuals and organizations charged with the accomplishment of those tasks required to satisfy all contractual obligations. Maintain an excellent working relationship with the Contracting Officer's Representative (COR) in the execution of all contract provisions for NAVSEA Inactive Ship On-site Maintenance Office and its detachments. Provide timely, accurate, complete correspondence, reports, and supporting documentation to Project Manager and corporate leadership. Brief Project Manager each week on the status of all ongoing and planned projects. Debrief completed projects and develop improvement plans from "lessons learned." Professionally represent the company in all dealings with the customer, suppliers, sub contractors, and other government agencies. Provide clear, firm, and consistent leadership while fostering a team culture built on the company's core values of individual accountability, growth, safety, respect, integrity, and commitment. Remain adaptable, calm, and deliberate under conditions of stress. Invite, accept, consider, and act on constructive criticism that will improve quality and efficiency. Hire, indoctrinate, train, and promote only the most qualified Hazmat Technicians. Ensure all individuals are afforded an equal opportunity in employment and advancement. Position requires ability to secure a CONFIDENTIAL security clearance. Must be a US Citizen Minimum :

Shall possess a four-year college degree in Occupational Health, Safety, and environmental science or related field or at least 5 years' experience as a Safety and Health Manager or Environmental Manager in the Marine Repair Environment. 48 Hour Occupational Safety & Health Manager Certification and CPR Instructor qualified.
