Transportation Attendants (Bus Monitors) are responsible for monitoring and assisting students while they are being transported to and from school. Transportation Attendants report to the Principal/Headmaster of the assigned

school.

Reports to: Head of School

Job Overview: SPED Cab Monitors are assigned to monitor and assist students with special needs while they are being transported to and from school.

Responsibilities:

The primary responsibility of a Transportation Attendant (Bus Monitor) is to attend to the general supervision of all students on the vehicle.

To cover a monitor-required route, Transportation Attendants (Bus Monitors) must board the vehicle before or at the first stop on the route and remain on the vehicle at all times until every student has reached his or her stop.

Transportation Attendants (Bus Monitors) should ride with the students in the back of the vehicle and not in the front seat unless only the front seat is available.

Transportation Attendants (Bus Monitors) are required to assist students in and out of the vehicle if necessary.

Transportation Attendants (Bus Monitors) are required to check the vehicle to insure that all students have exited at the appropriate stops.

Transportation Attendants (Bus Monitors) must exhibit proper behavior at all times. Transportation Attendants (Bus Monitors) are role models and should not engage in horseplay or arguments with students.

Transportation Attendants (Bus Monitors) must ensure that all students wear seat belts where necessary.

Students should not be allowed to leave the vehicle anywhere other than their assigned stops. If a student leaves the vehicle without authorization, Transportation Attendants (Bus Monitors) direct the driver to contact the

dispatcher immediately.

Students must be prohibited from consuming food or beverages, smoking, or bringing radios on the vehicle. Transportation Attendants (Bus Monitors) must also abide by these rules.

In the event of an absence, Transportation Attendants (Bus Monitors) must notify the school to which you are assigned at least one-half hour prior to your scheduled reporting time for the morning and/or at least two hours prior to your

scheduled reporting time for the afternoon.

Transportation Attendants (Bus Monitors) are also responsible for performing other related duties as directed by their supervisors.

Ability to follow written and verbal instructions

Knowledge:

Basic knowledge of school bus safety

Ability to:

Ability to operate a wide variety of safety equipment and adaptive equipment on buses, including wheelchairs, wheelchair lifts, Child Safety Restraint Systems, and other safety equipment, in a safe and effective manner

Move a wheelchair on and off the bus as needed

Qualifications - Required:

Must be 18 years of age or older

High School Diploma or GED

Ability to enter/exit bus via steps repeatedly

Must live in the City of Boston or be willing to move to the City of Boston

if hired.

Ability to lift 25-49 lbs

Proficiency in English

Qualifications - Preferred:

Previous experience working in a school setting and or with school aged children is preferred

CPR/First Aid Certified
