Social Change Cohort Organizer
The Bridge Builders Social Change Cohort aims to connect Lewis & Clark Students with the Immigrant and Refugee Community in Portland, Oregon through community partnerships, volunteer opportunities, as well as events and workshops that foster learning and understanding. As the Social Change Cohort Organizer, you are responsible for coordinating all aspects related to this program. Essential Functions: Conduct regular Orientation/Training for cohort participants including considerations on ethical volunteering, How to be a youth mentor, and basic understanding of issues immigrants and refugees are facing in Portland, Oregon Coordinate with IRCO (Immigrant & Refugee Organization) to schedule additional training, events, and collaborating on volunteer placements Regularly volunteer with IRCO (At least 8 hours a month) and coordinate other volunteer opportunities for the cohort Organize at least one workshop per semester related to Immigrants & Refugees Coordinate meetings with cohort at least twice a semester to debrief experiences Facilitate discussions and learning opportunities with the cohort that promote collaborative learning, advocacy, and awareness raising Organize transportation/collaboration on Community Art or Cultural Event related to Immigrant & Refugees Track attendance for all events & service hours through givepulse for all cohort participants Hours per week: 5-8 Pay Rate: $16.30 / hour Minimum Qualifications: Proficiency with Google Suite software Excellent interpersonal and problem-solving skills Excellent communication skills, verbal and written Strong organizational and administrative skills A demonstrated commitment to diversity equity and inclusion Preferred Qualifications: Preference will be given to candidates who can commit to a minimum of 2 years in the position. Experience leading workshops, public speaking at events and facilitating difficult dialogues among peers. Interest in the refugee and immigrant experience and connecting across cultures. Teamwork: Collaborate on a team to work towards a common goal and support others.
