Overview

Water/Wastewater Engineer and Utility Designer III Gainesville Regional Utilities (GRU) is seeking an experienced engineer and general contractor in the water and wastewater markets focused on plant and linear design/construction and infrastructure. The Water/Wastewater Department is filling a Utility Engineer position in the Engineering Asset Management and Pipeline Infrastructure group. The role involves routine professional and technical engineering work coordinating the planning, designing, permitting, and implementation of critical water distribution and wastewater collection pipeline projects. Responsibilities

Preparation, review, and approval of engineering plans utilizing AutoCAD, specifications, and permits for water distribution and wastewater collection system projects. Managing infrastructure rehabilitation programs, such as lining of gravity sewer mains and manholes, smoke testing, and integrity testing. Assisting in the coordination with internal departments, outside consultants, and contractors regarding construction, rehabilitation, or repair of water and sewer mains. Preparation of detailed cost estimates for budget planning and construction projects. Assisting in the inspection of construction work in progress to determine whether proper materials and workmanship are used and in compliance with plans and specifications. Assisting in the coordination with City, County, and State agencies regarding planning, design, permitting and construction activities associated with water and wastewater utility relocation within public rights-of-way. Design and management responsibilities including planning, scheduling and coordinating major engineering projects; applying knowledge of regulatory environment; and coordinating with internal and external stakeholders. Non-essential functions may include supervising major areas of engineering activities or acting in the absence of the supervisor, as needed.

Qualifications

Bachelor of Science in Engineering from an ABET-accredited program and six (6) years of experience in the area of assigned engineering responsibility. Co-op or internship time and/or an advanced degree may be recognized for up to one year of experience. Continuing education required to maintain currency in the engineering discipline and regulatory knowledge. Supervisory experience may be required.

Certifications or Licenses

Licenses: Valid State of Florida Engineering Intern license may be required for Water/Waste Water, Public Works or special project areas. Valid State of Florida Engineer-in-Training certificate may be required. Valid State of Florida Professional Engineer license may be required depending on assigned area of work. Certifications: Experience with Civil 3D and ArcGIS preferred.
