Job Position: Maintenance Tech for Parks & Recreation Department
Location: Ridgeland, SC 29936
Pay Rate: $16.00/hr
Shift: Monday-Friday, 7am-3pm
POSITION SUMMARY:
This position is responsible for the maintenance of parks and recreational facilities.
MAJOR DUTIES: • Performs general building facility maintenance including sweeping, mopping, and waxing floors, and making minor plumbing and building repairs. • Performs general grounds maintenance at parks and recreation facilities including mowing grass, trimming weeds, trimming hedges, picking up trash and debris, and blowing leaves. • Inspects facilities after use for any damages or litter and ensures that all county owned property is accounted for. • Maintains sports fields including mowing, dragging, spraying of chemicals, lining fields, trimming hedges, and repairing dugouts and fences. • Maintains assigned tools and equipment, including tractors, mowers, and vehicles. • Responds to emergency calls from the State Department of Transportation pertaining to county-maintained landscaping on the Interstate. • Responds to emergency calls at southern end facilities after normal working hours and weekends. • Operates heavy equipment as needed. • Performs other related duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED: • Knowledge of county and safety policies and procedures. • Knowledge of athletic field maintenance techniques. • Knowledge of grounds maintenance techniques, including the application of herbicides and pesticides. • Skill in operating such tools and equipment as tractors, lawnmowers, bush hogs, weed-eaters, sod cutters, line machines, chemical sprayers, electric hedge clippers, chainsaws, chippers, and various hand tools. • Skill in dealing with the public • Skill in oral and written communication.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: • Ability to read, write, and perform basic mathematical calculations. • Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/internship or having had a similar position for one to two years. • Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver's license issued by the State of South Carolina for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
The work is typically performed while sitting, bending, crouching, stooping, standing or walking. The employee frequently lift light and heavy objects, climb ladders, use tools or equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity, and distinguish between shades of color.
