Mechanical And Industrial Engineer Co-Op
As a Mechanical And Industrial Engineer Co-Op for Pratt Industries Cedar Hill, you will be an integral part of our team, working directly with the General Manager, Sales Manager, Customer Service Manager, and Design Manager. You'll lead your own projects and participate in activities that provide hands-on experience in design, production, sales, and quality within a manufacturing environment. What You'll Give:
Work on-site in a production facility. Learn about machinery and suggest ideas to improve efficiency. Improve the customer buying experience by servicing existing accounts. Develop strong professional relationships with managers and production employees. Coordinate with plant-based design, quality, and customer service personnel to learn machine capabilities. Gain expert knowledge of products, machine limitations, and costing variables to become an effective packaging consultant. Spend time on the manufacturing floor to learn how to operate machines, understand production scheduling, and analyze material flow. Observe and analyze downtime and suggest improvement ideas to boost efficiency. What You'll Get:
Manage administrative tasks including answering calls, greeting visitors, handling mail, and maintaining sign-in/out records. Process purchase orders and invoices using SAP, including data entry, scanning, and filing for both maintenance/freight and non-corrugated/tooling. Support accounting operations by assisting with collections, daily tape changes, cash applications, and providing backup for billing and reports. Provide customer service support by running reports, entering releases, checking orders for accuracy, and managing tooling orders. Maintain essential records and supplies, performing filing, scanning, copying, and ordering office supplies as needed. Primary Duties And Responsibilities
Learn and operate machinery and understand production scheduling. Analyze material flow and observe downtime to suggest efficiency improvements. Work on a summer project to be presented to executive management. Coordinate with design, quality, and customer service teams. Service existing accounts to enhance the customer experience. Develop an expert understanding of products, machine limitations, and costing variables. What You'll Need To Be Successful
Education: Be enrolled in a college program with a focus on drafting, packaging science, design, or engineering. Experience: Must be able to handle multiple projects and effectively prioritize your workload. Language Skills: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret business periodicals, journals, technical procedures, or government regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals, and effectively present information to various groups. Mathematical Skills: Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability, statistical inference, geometry, and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts like fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations. Reasoning Ability: Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret technical instructions and handle abstract and concrete variables. Technical Skills: Must be open to learning the following: Equipment design and capabilities for efficient operation. Cost issues to make daily decisions that reduce overall costs. Budget development, adherence, and analysis. Quality standards. Regulatory requirements, including but not limited to wage and hour laws, environmental regulations, and company policies (OSHA, DEQ, EEO). Physical Demands: The employee is regularly required to talk or hear, and sit and stand. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Work Environment: While performing duties in the plant, the employee is exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, moving mechanical parts, and fumes or airborne particles.
