Our client, a leading player in precision manufacturing, is seeking a

Lead Metrologist

to join their growing quality team on

1st shift . This is a direct hire opportunity based in

Grand Rapids, MI , offering a hands-on leadership role within a clean, compliance-driven environment. The ideal candidate brings deep technical knowledge in metrology, programming with

PC-DMIS , and a solid understanding of

vision systems , while also possessing strong leadership and communication skills. In this role, you will lead a small team of Metrologists and Technicians (2 direct reports to start, with potential growth to 3), support engineering efforts across validation, product development, and investigations, and take ownership of metrology systems, equipment, and process improvements.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership & Oversight: Supervise and develop a team of Metrologists and Technicians Maintain and communicate project schedules and departmental metrics Lead process improvement initiatives within the Metrology department Prioritize daily task assignments and manage department resources Train and mentor cross-functional teams in metrology practices and principles Develop and maintain clear, compliant procedures and documentation Metrology & Technical Execution:

Operate and program CMMs (PC-DMIS) and vision systems for 2D/3D measurement Perform Gage R&R and measurement system analysis (MSA) Support validation and engineering studies, including mold qualifications Interpret engineering drawings, including GD&T, to ensure measurement accuracy Develop and refine calibration procedures and conduct statistical analysis (Cp/Cpk, Pp/Ppk, hypothesis testing, etc.) Assist in fixture design using CAD, SolidWorks, and 3D printing technologies Support lab design, environmental controls, and lab compliance standards Conduct root cause analysis and support CAPA investigations related to metrology Job Requirements

Qualifications

Associate degree in a Quality, Engineering, or Technical discipline

or

equivalent experience 5+ years

of experience working with CMMs and metrology systems Proficient with

PC-DMIS

programming and

vision-based

measurement tools Strong knowledge of GD&T, blueprint reading, and measurement interpretation Prior leadership experience or team oversight responsibility Competency in Microsoft Office and technical report writing Excellent communication and interpersonal skills Preferred Skills

Experience in

plastic injection molding Background in

medical device

or

pharmaceutical

manufacturing Familiarity with ISO standards, FDA regulations, cGMP, and cleanroom environments Working knowledge of SPC and statistical tools (e.g., control charts, regression) Hands-on experience with CAD/SolidWorks and 3D fixture design Ability to support and influence cross-functional teams Physical & Work Requirements

Ability to work a standard 40-hour week with occasional overtime Must be able to sit/stand for extended periods and lift up to 50 lbs Adequate vision (corrected or uncorrected) and color/depth perception required Must be able to hear alarms at up to 100 feet Titles Encouraged to Apply
