As the Director of Data Center Construction, you will be at the forefront of shaping the future of our data infrastructure. Your leadership will be pivotal in driving the strategic vision for our data center projects, ensuring they align with our long-term organizational goals. Strategically, you will be responsible for developing and implementing comprehensive plans that optimize efficiency, cost-effectiveness, and operational excellence in delivery. You will engage with key stakeholders, manage high-stakes vendor relationships, and navigate the complexities of regulatory compliance. Your ability to anticipate and mitigate risks will be crucial in maintaining project timelines and budgets. Key Responsibilities Include:
Review and understand complex data center construction projects that are being constructed by colocation lease providers. Analyze the projects for risk profiles and work with colocation providers to mitigate. Strategic Planning: Develop and implement long-term standards and strategies for data center colocation construction projects. Team Leadership: Lead and mentor a team of project managers, engineers, and construction professionals. Project Oversight: Lead and manage the construction oversight efforts of data centers by colocation providers. Schedule Management: Develop and maintain detailed project schedules. Risk Evaluation: Analyze projects independently to evaluate the risk profiles associated with timely delivery. Tenant Fit Out Integration: Work closely throughout design, construction, and commissioning to fully coordinate and integrate the tenant fit out projects. Quality Assurance: Implement and oversee quality control processes. Design Coordination: Collaborate with design teams to ensure that construction activities align with the approved design plans and specifications. Stakeholder Communication: Serve as the primary point of contact between the company and colocation providers. Risk Management: Identify potential risks and develop mitigation strategies. Compliance: Ensure all construction activities comply with relevant regulations, codes, and standards. Provide ongoing colocation provider evaluation input for continuous improvement. Regular project visits to ensure schedule, coordination, and quality will be required throughout the life of the project. Innovation and Improvement: Stay abreast of industry trends and emerging technologies. Attend meetings held in various time zones to support live engagement and support of international projects. Required Skills Include:
Heavy knowledge of base building data center construction- civil, structural, architectural, mechanical, electrical, controls, and plumbing. Problem-Solving: Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities. Strategic Planning: Strong skills in developing and implementing long-term strategies. Technical Knowledge: Deep understanding of data center design, construction, and operational requirements. Project Management: Expertise in managing large-scale data center construction projects. Leadership: Proven ability to lead and inspire a diverse team of professionals. Budget Management: Proficiency in creating and managing project budgets. Risk Management: Ability to identify potential risks and develop effective mitigation strategies. Vendor Management: Experience in selecting, negotiating, and managing contracts with vendors and contractors. Regulatory Compliance: Knowledge of relevant regulations and industry standards. Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience. Minimum of 8 years of experience in large scale construction project leadership, with a focus on data center or colocation infrastructure. Proven track record of successfully managing large-scale construction projects. Strong understanding of construction processes, quality control, and design coordination. Excellent communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills. Ability to work effectively with diverse teams and stakeholders. Must be able to travel as needed. May be eligible for bonus, equity, and compensation deferral.
