Safety Representative, Consultation
The Safety Representative, Consultation is responsible for the development, implementation, and oversight of comprehensive occupational safety programs for the College of Southern Nevada, across all its campus locations, under the direction of the Director of Environmental Health and Safety. This role requires strong technical knowledge of occupational safety regulations and the ability to collaborate effectively with a wide range of departments and personnel to foster a culture of safety and ensure compliance. The individual will oversee key safety programs, including but not limited to, forklifts, mobile elevated working platforms, lockout/tagout, confined space, electrical safety, fall protection, hot work, and ladder safety. A primary function of this role is to ensure that all programs and practices are in compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, thereby minimizing workplace hazards and promoting a safe environment for the college community. Under general supervision, responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Develop, implement, and oversee comprehensive occupational safety programs for the College of Southern Nevada, including but not limited to, forklifts, mobile elevated working platforms, lockout/tagout, confined space, electrical safety, fall protection, hot work, and ladder safety. Conduct worksite surveys, inspections, and incident investigations to identify safety and health hazards and recommend reasonable and feasible means of abatement. Provide instruction and training on hazard recognition, regulatory requirements, inspection techniques, safety program management, and safe methods of performing operational procedures. Collaborate effectively with a wide range of departments and personnel to foster a culture of safety and ensure compliance. Maintain current knowledge of current technologies and industry applications using technical references and consensus codes and standards; prepare written reports and/or training materials as required. Perform related duties as assigned. Minimum qualifications: Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in occupational safety and health, safety engineering, or related field and one year of experience in at least three of the following areas: hazard identification, hazard evaluation in relation to existing standards, hazard control design, hazard controls verification, safety/health program design, and safety/health program evaluation; OR Bachelor's degree in environmental, biological or physical sciences, public health, or engineering and two years of experience as described above; OR certification as an Associate in Loss Control Management, Associate Safety Professional, Occupational Safety and Health Technologist, or Associate Safety and Health Manager and two years of experience as described above; OR municipal, State, or national instructor certification in safety and health, hazardous materials, environmental sciences, fire science, or related field and two years of experience as described above; OR graduation from high school or equivalent education and four years of experience as described above; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience; OR one year of experience as a Safety Associate, Consultation or Enforcement in Nevada State service. A valid driver's license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment. Preferred qualifications: Working knowledge of OSHA standards and occupational safety programs. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Current or former forklift, scissor lift, and/or aerial lift operator. Completion of OSHA 30 training. Experience working in a higher education or public sector environment. Demonstrated ability to develop and deliver effective safety training to diverse audiences. Experience with incident investigation and root cause analysis. Scheduled weekly hours: Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 4:30 pm. Must be available to work at multiple CSN campuses to include: CSN - North Las Vegas Campus CSN - ALC - Satellite/Leased Locations CSN - Charleston Campus CSN - Henderson Campus Starting salary: Grade 32, Step 1 - $ 56,689.20 *This position is contingent upon ongoing and available funding.
