Job Title

The City of Atlantic Beach Public Works Department is responsible for evaluating and maintaining over 55 miles of roads. Conducting annual assessments of pavement conditions to schedule necessary maintenance and paving projects; this extensive roadway network underscores the city's commitment to infrastructure maintenance and accessibility. Duties and Responsibilities

Perform a variety of unskilled and semi-skilled manual labor tasks in the maintenance and repair of public works, public utilities, sidewalks, stormwater, grounds, right-of-ways, drainage structures, buildings, and related facilities. Perform pick and shovel work on asphalt and concrete roadways; clean sidewalks, awnings, and buildings using pressure cleaners; empty trash containers and replace liners. Clean gutters, culverts, catch basins and other drainage structures. Load and unload stone, gravel, dirt, asphalt, timber, and heavy mechanical equipment. Rake and load grass, leaves, and brush; mow right-of-ways; clean grounds. Clean and prep areas for application of concrete, asphalt, gravel, and other materials for the repair/construction/renovation of building and road repairs; mix, pour, and spread concrete, asphalt, gravel, and other materials; shovel, and rake asphalt paving mix in road repairs. Dig and backfill ditches; assist with the construction and maintenance of utility lines and facilities. Assist skilled tradesmen by carrying materials, tools, and equipment. Perform a variety of other heavy manual work in connection with the maintenance and construction of roads. Act as flagman when required. Remove storm debris due to downed trees. Construct lifeguard chairs. Perform routine grounds maintenance activities such as mowing, edging, blowing, hedging. Perform minor repairs on roofs. Perform routine plumbing work on irrigation systems. Maintain, repair, and replace traffic and information signs. Participate in the set-up and breakdown of facilities for various special events. Participate in hurricane preparedness activities. Respond to 24-hour emergency calls. Operate riding/push mowers, tractors, jackhammers, dump trailers, weed eaters and other equipment. Operate chain saws, pole saws, skill saws, sawzalls, and concrete saws. Landscape installation. Weed plant beds on a regular basis. Maintain planted material to include pruning, fertilizing, mulching and pest control; replacement of dead or diseased plants; maintenance of plant bed edging and adjacent areas. Assist other City departments as approved by Department Head. Perform all other related duties as requested. Education and Experience

High school diploma or equivalent. At least two (2) years of experience; minimum one (1) year experience in light construction and general maintenance. Experience with drainage and streets preferred. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Knowledge of the construction and maintenance of drainage, streets, grounds, utilities, parks, and related facilities. Knowledge and skill of the safe use, operations, and preventive maintenance of the equipment necessary to complete assigned tasks including hand tools and power equipment. Skill in performing physically demanding tasks such as lifting, digging, raking, and loading materials. Skill in organizing tasks to maximize efficiency while maintaining safety and quality. Ability to read, listen, and understand and follow specific plans, instructions and safety procedures. Ability to perform manual labor for extended periods, often under unfavorable weather conditions. Ability to use measuring tools and read construction plans or sketches to lay out repair or construction projects accurately. Ability to lifting up to 50 pounds. Ability to communicate clearly with team members, supervisors, and the public, both verbally and in writing. Benefits
