Maintenance Worker

Perform maintenance work on water, sewer and storm water systems as well as general building and grounds maintenance. Examples of Duties: Maintains lift stations including cleaning, painting, servicing, replacing and adjusting components, pumps and lines. Maintains sewer lines including installing, inspecting, repairing and replacing components. Maintains water mains and service lines including installing, repairing, replacing and fire hydrant repair and replacement. Maintains all building and structures. Services water meters including reading, pulling, repair and replacement. Maintains, installs and repairs storm water catch basins, gravity lines and outfalls. Performs preventative maintenance on equipment such as air compressors, pumps, generators and by-pass pumps. Trouble shoots electrical problems at Town facilities, lift stations and the water treatment plant. Maintains grounds after excavation and maintains lift station easements. Maintains good relations with customers and explains reason for service work. Prepares forms and logs that document work performed. All duties as assigned by the Supervisor. Typical Qualifications: Education and Experience:

High school diploma or equivalent, plus a vocational/technical certification or equivalent education, training, and experience. At least one year of experience in utility infrastructure maintenance is preferred. Additional qualifying experience or an accredited college/university coursework in a job-related field may substitute for one year of experience or education. Valid Florida driver's license required by hire date. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Requirements:

Basic knowledge of materials, methods, practices, and equipment used in the water, wastewater, and stormwater fields. Ability to work with sketches, maps, blueprints, and schematics. Ability to work during off hours when called for emergencies. Ability to be on-call and available on a rotating schedule. Ability to establish effective working relationships with other employees and the public. Tasks are mostly done outdoors, with regular visits to lift stations, and job sites with potential exposure to adverse conditions like dirt, dust, pollen, odors, fumes, poor ventilation, wetness, humidity, rain, temperature extremes, noise, machinery, moving vehicles, vibrations, electric currents, animals/wildlife, toxic agents, gases/chemicals, oils, cutting fluids, or pathogenic substances.
