JOB SUMMARY:

Responsibilities:

to perform work required for repair and maintain campus structures and systems. Requires thoroughness and attention to detail. Operates within the policies, procedures and the university's mission. Demonstrates and reflects an understanding of and commitment to the mission and core values of Carlow University and the sisters of mercy Essential Functions:

Repairs doors, door frames, and furniture; fabricates and installs temporary partitions; builds forms; and operates and maintains wood lathe, sanders, jointer, power saw, planer, and related power and hand tools to perform assigned carpentry duties. Paints and decorates interiors of buildings; and performs masonry work in connection with buildings, foundations, walks, and walls. Installs and maintains plumbing fixtures; maintains steam lines, steam heating, and cooking equipment; and measures, cuts, threads and installs pipe for steam and water lines. Installs electric circuits, wall plugs, and lighting fixtures; and repairs and reconditions fans. Makes repairs and adjustments to laundry washing, drying and pressing machinery, and schedules oiling and greasing of equipment. Makes repairs to roofs and installs flashing and spouts. Welds and brazes metals by use of arc and acetylene welders; and erects steel for construction. Performs lead work over Maintenance Staff performing basic assignments organizing and assigning work activity. Performs repair on structures, such as building forms, finishing concrete, welding steel components, and operating construction equipment when required. Removes snow from sidewalks and entryways using basic snow removal equipment. Performs related work as required. Makes repairs to locks and other locksmithing tasks. REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

Knowledge of the methods, materials, tools, and practices used in at least two of the building, electrical, or mechanical trades. Knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of the trades involved. Ability to care for and use the tools and equipment utilized in the trades involved. Ability to detect defects in equipment and to make proper repairs or adjustments. Ability to lead a small group of semi-skilled workers. Ability to interpret and work from pencil sketches and diagrams. Ability to follow oral and written instructions. MINIMUM EDUCATION LEVEL REQUIRED:

Two years of experience as a Maintenance Repairman I

OR

Four years of experience in building and plant maintenance work, which has involved at least two of the building, electrical, or mechanical trades; OR

any equivalent combination of experience and training that affords the applicant with the Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities. Carlow University is Devoted to....
