Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced and self-motivated
Estimator
to join our procurement team. The ideal candidate will bring strategic thinking, creativity, and strong planning skills to the bidding process, while fostering a collaborative environment with internal teams and subcontractors. This role requires a proven ability to develop and maintain strong vendor and subcontractor relationships while producing accurate, competitive, and comprehensive bids for commercial construction projects. Key Responsibilities
Review and interpret project specifications to determine requirements.
Collaborate with project teams to establish bid strategies, address concerns, and identify advantages.
Identify priority subcontractors and vendors for each bid.
Direct bid solicitation efforts, ensuring vendor and subcontractor participation using bid management software.
Develop and review detailed work scopes for subcontractors.
Conduct pre-bid meetings with internal teams and subcontractors as needed.
Support operations staff with project logistics, staging, and phasing plans.
Prepare bid summaries, general requirements bid spreadsheets, and conceptual estimates.
Perform quantity take-offs for CSI Divisions 146.
Price self-performed and subcontracted work using unit-based rates.
Utilize subcontractor and field production data to maintain and update pricing databases.
Build and strengthen subcontractor relationships while identifying and onboarding new subcontractors.
Monitor subcontractor coverage and ensure adequate participation in all bid areas.
Review and execute bid forms, bid bonds, and related bid documentation.
Assess estimates for accuracy, constructability, and risk factors.
Lead and manage the estimating process for public and private sector bids.
Contribute to continuous improvement within the estimating department and support team collaboration.
Qualifications
Minimum of 5 years' experience as an estimator in commercial construction.
Experience with projects valued over $5 million.
Familiarity with construction concepts, best practices, and relevant technologies.
Proven ability to lead a complete bid process from start to finish.
Experience developing subcontractor networks in new geographic areas.
Self-performance experience in concrete and carpentry strongly preferred.
Proficiency in Timberline, On-Screen Takeoff (OST), and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and innovative problem-solving abilities.
