Overview

Web Designer role at Fort Lewis College. This position reports to the Director of Web Development and is part of the Marketing & Communications department. The Web Designer is responsible for website design, front-end development, and ongoing maintenance of official Fort Lewis College websites, emails, third-party applications, and other digital initiatives. This role supports the campus community by providing helpdesk services for stakeholders and partners, while collaborating within the Web Management Team and the Marketing & Communications Department to improve processes, workflows, and project management efficiency. The ideal candidate is an ambitious self-starter who values continuous learning and delivers strong customer service, with the ability to balance daily tasks and long-term projects. A passion for higher education and its transformative impact is essential. On-site presence is preferred, with remote work possible for the right candidate. Responsibilities

Understand and manage the current CMS, set up permissions, code in Razor, work with APIs, and/or ADA compliance Design and develop new, accessible, responsive templates, components, webpages, and websites within the current content management system Design and develop website templates for third-party systems such as Slate, Canvas, and Modern Campus Catalog Work with APIs to integrate third-party tools and services Maintain knowledge of 508 and WCAG 2.1 accessibility compliance and implementation practices and produce and remediate digitally accessible materials Ensure that new and existing designs meet usability and user experience best practices through knowledge share, audit, and A/B testing Consistently maintain the Fort Lewis College brand and adhere to the Fort Lewis College Web Governance Policy and style guides Provide helpdesk support and training to content management team members to ensure efficient turnaround for website updates Design email templates and format emails to display properly on a number of platforms Help the web team develop and maintain internal best practices and processes Perform other duties as assigned Qualifications

A degree or certification from an accredited college or university in website design or front end web development or related field 3+ years of experience developing websites with HTML and CSS Experience with full cycle web development, including audit, content planning, design, development, testing, troubleshooting, and maintenance Create and optimize website graphics Experience using AI tools to write, modify and/or troubleshoot code to improve efficiency and ensure consistent quality for development projects Knowledge of 508 and WCAG 2.1 accessibility compliance and implementation practices Preferred qualifications

Experience using and developing for content management systems Experience with the CK Editor, jQuery, FancyBox, ASP.NET, Bootstrap, and/or Razor Experience managing products in multi-stakeholder environments Well-versed in user research and testing, including user personas, A/B testing, and direct user testing Understand website search tools such as Funnelback Experience managing client and stakeholder relationships while meeting strategic goals and timelines Experience working in higher education Familiarity with the Fort Lewis College culture Major responsibilities

Exempt Part Time.90FTE Permanent Full Year This position is scheduled for 36 hours per week, generally Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Flexibility in scheduling is available. Compensation

The salary range is $51,300 to $56,700 at .90FTE (annualized $57K to $63K), plus a comprehensive benefits package. Seniorit y level
