Overview
The Department of Political Science at Rice University, located in Houston, Texas, invites applications for one tenure-track position in American Politics to begin July 1, 2026. The appointment will be made at the rank of associate or full professor. Successful candidates will have a promising research agenda and strong analytical and empirical skills, and they should aspire to the highest standards of scholarship, professional activity, and commitment to graduate and undergraduate education. Job duties include conducting exceptional research, securing external funding, and teaching graduate courses in American Politics and undergraduate courses that serve students in Political Science and Social Policy Analysis; the position also requires service to the department, the university, and the field of Political Science. We are especially interested in candidates whose research and expertise are at the intersection of American politics and public policy, including areas such as state and local government, courts, legislatures, bureaucracy, and the presidency. The new hire will collaborate with scholars across all departmental areas and with those conducting similar research in the School of Social Sciences. Responsibilities
Conduct exceptional research and secure external funding. Teach graduate courses in American Politics and undergraduate courses serving Political Science and Social Policy Analysis students. Contribute to graduate and undergraduate education, service to the department, the university, and the field of Political Science. Collaborate with scholars across departmental areas and with researchers in the School of Social Sciences. Qualifications
Candidates must currently have a PhD in Political Science or a related field.
