District Athletic Compliance Officer
PURPOSE The District Athletic Director is responsible for the overall coordination, leadership, and guidance of all high school athletics programs in MDUSD. The position provides support to site athletic directors, ensures compliance with league, NCS, CIF, NHSAA, and Title IX requirements, and serves as a liaison between school sites and district departments to ensure high-quality athletic opportunities for all student-athletes.

Provides direction and support to site athletic directors, coaches, and related staff.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS • Supervises the coordination and evaluation of high school athletics to ensure a high-quality experience for all student athletes. Promote effective communication between the schools and community to create positive support, understanding, and participation for continued program improvement • Serves as an advisor to principals and their staff, students, and community members, in the initiation, development, interpretation, evaluation of the athletic program as an integral part of the total educational program improvement. • Assists school site administrators with hiring, and evaluation of school athletic directors • Assists school site Athletic Directors with hiring, timely onboarding, and evaluation of high school head coaches. • Supervises and coordinates the preparation of all athletic schedules within the District in order to effectively and efficiently use facilities. • Facilitates high school athletic/activities directors' meetings to ensure continuity of program, communication, and coordination of events. • Coordinates and develops in-district professional development programs for Athletic directors, high school coaches and site administrators. • Serves as resource to athletic booster clubs to support their efforts and ensure compliance with applicable regulations. • Participates in league, section and state meetings providing district perspective and leadership while determining rules and regulations governing local and state organizations. • Works with appropriate administrative personnel regarding school needs, such as human resources, financial and accounting functions, maintenance, grounds, facilities, security, and transportation. • Remains current regarding changes and developments in the profession by attending professional meetings, reading professional journals and other publications and discussing problems of mutual interest with others in the field to ensure quality leadership. • Monitors gender equity in athletics by preparing Title IX reports and evaluates requests for new programs to maintain equality and parity of programs across the district. Prepares such reports as may be required to keep the Chief of Educational Services and other appropriate district personnel informed regarding the athletic/activities programs. • Acts as a resource for athletic/activities directors and/or counselors regarding rules and regulations of the NCAA, NCAA Clearinghouse, NAIA and NJCAA to ensure the students/athletes who wish to participate in athletics on the collegiate level maximize their opportunities • Develops and coordinates a system for enhancing sportsmanship throughout the district to encourage healthy competition while maintaining a balance of respect for one another. • Supports schools' athletic directors with any District requirement compliance and other general athletic compliance questions. • Works on an ongoing basis with paid and volunteer coaches to onboard them seasonally and support with ensuring all coaches complete their athletic compliance requirements. • Responsible for working with schools' Athletic Directors to ensure all coaches have the proper training and documentation. • Directs the preparation of proposed annual budget for MDUSD Athletics, including both external and internal funding sources. • Works closely with District's Title IX Coordinator to ensure compliance with Title IX and other applicable laws. • Performs other duties as assigned. Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the department
JOB REQUIREMENTS: MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education : • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Education, Sports Management, or a related field required. • Possession of a valid California school administrative credential is preferred.
Experience : • Minimum of three years professional-level experience in athletics or similar administrative role. • Additional experience as school administrator, or athletic director at the high school and/or college level is preferred along with prior coaching experience. • Knowledge of athletic rules, policies and procedures of MDUSD, and the California Interscholastic Federation State and/or North Coast Section.
Required Knowledge: • Rules, policies, and procedures of MDUSD, CIF State, and the North Coast Section • Budgeting, scheduling, and compliance practices for high school athletics. • Title IX and gender equity in sports. • NCAA, NAIA, and NJCAA eligibility requirements.
Required Abilities : • Provide leadership, guidance, and training to site athletic directors and coaches. • Communicate effectively with administrators, staff, students, and community stakeholders. • Organize and prioritize tasks to meet deadlines. • Interpret and apply applicable laws, rules, and regulations. • Work independently and collaboratively across teams and sites.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Work Environment: • Office environment within the District and school sites • Frequent travel between school locations. • Occasional exposure to outdoor weather conditions. • Moderate noise level during athletic events.
Physical Demands: • Ability to sit, stand, walk, and use hands and arms in standard office and athletic settings. • Occasional lifting/moving of objects up to 50 pounds. • Hearing and speaking to exchange information. • Seeing to read documents and monitor activities.
