Summary
The Director of Business Operations Perioperative Services provides administrative support to the Perioperative division, working closely with the Jackson Health System (JHS) Senior Operating Room Director and other Procedural Area Directors on clinical, operational, and financial matters. This role is responsible for day-to-day project management and continuous improvement of the surgical services division, offering staff support on administrative and clinical issues, and providing high-level conceptual input into top management decisions regarding nursing requirements and programs.
Responsibilities
Provides the leadership framework for planning, directing, coordinating, and improving services within JHS. Manages the day-to-day operations and coordination of process-related work activities of the perioperative division and establishes systems of accountability for clinical, clerical, and support personnel to ensure customer needs are assessed accurately and serviced in a timely fashion. Provides analysis and advice on administrative and clinical matters pertaining to long and short-term planning, financial and workload analyses, and program evaluation and implementation. Ensures all required responses or actions are coordinated with the proper sources, meet time frames, and are consistent with service and medical center policy. Facilitates timely, effective communication and collaboration among departments. Serves as a liaison with administrative leadership to surgical leadership and works collaboratively on contracts, charge reconciliation, and administrative and clinical issues. Assists in the development and implementation of business plans within key service lines. Participates in planning functions including hospital strategic, operational, emergency management, and disaster preparedness, coordinating administrative and clinical program proposals with strategic planning and management to achieve the mission and vision of JHS. Analyzes, obtains, and provides information and recommendations on issues to meet service line goals. Initiates and coordinates special projects to provide valuable insight into work operations, organizations, and programs. Manipulates data from complex software programs, requiring expertise in computer use to devise programs and extract data useful in evaluating relevant managerial and clinical information. Keeps abreast of software developments to effectively analyze and monitor financial and workload management. Coordinates internal and external financial, workload, and resource information to ensure accuracy, making recommendations after thorough data analysis while considering interrelationships between service and assigned area programs. Conducts thorough analysis of new or revised policies, procedures, or programs and advises on issues and recommendations for appropriate action. Provides input to ensure effective implementation of established program plans and goals established by senior management, including performing special studies, chairing special work groups, and attending Council/Committee meetings as required. Presents critical observations, findings, and recommendations to leadership, Councils/Committees, and representatives on issues affecting the service and assigned areas. Works with nursing leaders to evaluate ineffective practices and coordinates the development of best practice management strategies to improve efficiency. Trains and motivates staff to implement goals, objectives, and responsibilities. Provides leadership for staff development, ensuring participation in appropriate orientation, training courses, and mandatory educational programs to maintain competency in job skills, knowledge, equipment usage, and safe work practices. Maintains a working knowledge of laws, policies, procedures, and collective bargaining agreements impacting employees in assigned areas, and stays current with County, State, and Federal guidelines/requirements as they apply to job duties, licenses, and certifications to ensure compliance with regulatory agencies. Performs other related duties as assigned. Experience
Generally requires 5 to 7 years of related experience. Experience in hospital business operations highly preferred. Project Management experience required. Experience leading project in an Operating Room highly preferred. Education
Bachelor's Degree in business, finance or in related field is required. Master's Degree preferred. Certificate in Process Improvement highly preferred. Skill
Strong problem-solving and analytic abilities are required. Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to perform as a team leader/member. Ability to handle multiple complex tasks in a fast-paced environment. Ability to work efficiently under conditions of multiple deadlines and changing priorities to produce a large volume of high-quality material with meticulous attention to detail. Ability to make sound decisions and be able to articulate reasoning for said decisions. Strong customer service orientation in all interactions as well as exceptions exercise of independent judgment.
