JOB SUMMARY: The Retro-Commissioning Agent (RCx Agent) is responsible for planning, managing, and executing retro-commissioning projects to optimize building systems performance, enhance occupant comfort, reduce energy consumption, and ensure systems operate as intended. This role requires strong collaboration with building owners, facility staff, contractors, and design professionals to identify opportunities for improvement, implement corrective measures, and verify results. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Lead retro-commissioning efforts for assigned projects, including assessment, planning, implementation, and verification phases Conduct site investigations to evaluate HVAC, controls, lighting, and other building systems for efficiency, reliability and occupant comfort Develop, review, and maintain commissioning plans, documentation, and project deliverables in compliance with industry standards (ASHREA, LEED, or equivalent) Identify deficiencies, recommend corrective actions, and coordinate implementation with contractors, engineers, and facility staff Perform functional testing, data trend analysis, and energy performance evaluations to verify system optimization Provide training and knowledge transfer to facility operations teams to ensure sustained performance improvements Maintain project schedules, budgets, and documentation to ensure timely and successful project closeout Collaborate with internal engineering and design staff and external stakeholders to meet project requirements Contribute to continuous improvement of company commissioning practices, tools, and templates Other duties as assigned
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: May provide project-based oversight to engineers, designers, and subcontractors No direct ongoing supervisory responsibilities
QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor's degree in Mechanical/Electrical Engineering, Building Science, or related field preferred; equivalent extensive construction/field experience considered 5+ years of experience in building automation systems, commissioning, or retro-commissioning CxA (Certified Commissioning Authority), BCxP (Building Commissioning Professional), or equivalent Certifications preferred Valid driver's license, current auto insurance coverage, and reliable transportation This position involves work on projects governed by federal contracts. U.S. citizenship and the ability to pass an FBI background check (including no felony convictions) are required
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES Strong knowledge of HVAC, controls, and energy management systems Proficiency in commissioning software tools, BAS systems, and Microsoft Office Suite Ability to interpret mechanical drawings, specifications, and control sequences Strong communication skills (oral and written); must be able to effectively relay information to various audience groups, including, but not customers and perspective customers, managers, leadership, colleagues, and business associates Strong interpersonal skills; ability to foster and maintain positive working relationships with individuals internal and external to the company and from various backgrounds Strong organization skills with the ability to self-motivate and prioritize tasks; must be able to effectively manage own schedule with limited oversight Must be able to prepare professional written communications (emails, documents, etc.) Must demonstrate professionalism and tact in all interactions Demonstration of time-management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines Good analytical skills; ability to analyze data and relay trends and potential outcomes; ability to evaluate problems and identify resolutions; good negotiation skills Proficient user of Microsoft Office Suite and Adobe PDF, and ability to utilize various computer applications Ability to maintain satisfactory attendance
WORKING CONDITIONS & PHYSICAL DEMANDS This position may operate in a professional office environment, at an assigned office location, and/or on active construction job sites depending on project needs. Office environment:
Use of standard office equipment (computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets). Noise levels are usually quiet to moderate. Job Sites:
Frequent exposure to loud environments, airborne particles, mechanical equipment, and varying weather conditions. The employee may work at heights, near moving mechanical parts, or in confined spaces. Appropriate PPE is required. Travel:
Must be able to travel regionally and occasionally out of state; overnight stay may be required based on project assignments.
