Summary
Coordinate and participate in a variety of technical tasks, tests, and determinations involving the utilization of radioactive materials and measurement instrumentation. Work Performed
Coordinate and participate in a variety of technical procedures, including in vivo and in vitro studies; operate radiation detection and measurement instrumentation, including stationary imaging devices, scintillation gamma counters, and apparatus for in vitro counting. Calibrate and prepare radiopharmaceutical materials for patient administration; formulate radiopharmaceuticals from pre-prepared kits. Calibrate instruments and review calibration data to detect trends indicating malfunctions. Calculate data, including patient study results and radioactive decay. Evaluate recorded images for technical quality and process computerized image data, including function curves and reconstructed SPECT images. Provide care for patients of all ages during examinations, initiate life support measures if necessary. Maintain inventory and records concerning radiopharmaceutical activities, including receipt, dispensing, and disposal. Provide instruction and technical guidance to radiologic technology students or other advanced imaging techs; assist in training new employees. Monitor the Nuclear Medicine Department for possible contamination using portable survey meters. Perform EKG preparation and tracing, and other incidental duties related to the work described. Assist in developing and evaluating new procedures and techniques; consult with physicians regarding nuclear medicine procedures. Administer thyroid therapy, ensuring proper dosage and patient monitoring under supervision. Assist in quality assurance related to calibration and equipment maintenance. Assist in education and training of new physicians, interns, residents, and fellows. Perform other related duties as needed. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
