Position Summary
Provides leadership and vision for the implementation,maintenance and optimization of the electronic health record (EHR) includingEpic and related systems. Uses the application of Clinical Informaticsknowledge and electronic data extraction supporting improving workflows andutilization across the enterprise with a particular focus on perioperativeservices. This position serves as the primary physician and advanced practiceprovider bridge between technology and clinical care delivery in the perioperativespace, focusing on the needs of the provider and patient community. This roleworks closely with inpatient and ambulatory CMO leadership, Quality leadership,Information Services leadership, Nursing leadership, Lab leadership andPharmacy leadership.
Duties & Responsibilities Plans and develops rollout strategies of the Epicperioperative products and tools. Guides inpatient workflow design and system configuration,providing guidance on translating workflows into system build. Responsible for ensuringthat IT implementations and adoption support all compliance and auditregulations. Through leadership, influence, a commitment to transparency,and knowledge of both healthcare and Clinical Informatics, the incumbenteducates perioperative providers and clinicians regarding the criticalcontributions that health IT systems make to patient care and to theirindividual practices. Promotes data driven improvements by using analytic toolsthat lead to decreased variation from "Best Practice" methods and improvedclinical outcomes, patient satisfaction and operational efficiency. Serves as a change agent in perioperative services to guidemedical staff and the medical school through upgrades in technology. Works collaboratively with the Hospital Information Systemsdepartment, working seamlessly as a part of the Information Systems leadershipstructure. Supports the academic direction and learning processes forClinical Informatics, providing input to Informatics leadership Provides leadership in the planning, development andimplementation of strategic and tactical plans. Evaluates the impact ofsolutions on perioperative clinical processes and identify areas to createefficiencies for clinicians and improve quality of care. Engineers workflows and processes that maximize efficiencyand lead to the highest quality of clinical care Helps turn data into knowledge and wisdom throughout UIHealth through data visualization and analytics interfacing closely with thebusiness intelligence team. Promotes innovations in new care-delivery models to improveperioperative operating efficiency and patient satisfaction expressed throughkey metrics, such as Procedure Pass Utilization, MyChart utilization forpreoperative tasks and overall surgeon and anesthesiologist wellbeing. Embraces a collaborative approach to decision-making andcommunications among all of UI Health. This includes executive and medicalstaff leaders, Hospital leadership (including direct reports and all othermanagement/leadership), Hospital staff and medical faculty. Recognizes thesymbiotic and intertwined relationship between the Hospital and College ofMedicine. In collaboration with Executive leaders provides input onperformance strategies, goals and mutual incentive language to improveenterprise performance. In collaboration with other executive leaders, createssuperior transitions of care strategies in both pre-acute and post- acutedomains as they interface with the perioperative domain. Builds commitment and facilitates effective collaborationamong all clinical team members and between clinical departments throughout thesystem. Provides leadership and direction in planning and rollingout future health information technology initiatives and implementations with afocus on perioperative clinical workflows and regulatory requirements.
Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications
Health care professional degree (Medical Doctor or Doctor of Osteopathy) required. Unrestricted Illinois license to practice medicine or Illinois license eligible required.
Previous experience in information technology operations management including leading and participating in the development and implementation of strategic initiatives required.
Complex, multi-disciplinary project management experience required, with proven track record of operational change.
Preferred Qualifications
Strong leadership, interpersonal, written and communication skills. Ability to analyze complex problems and develop recommendations and solutions. Conflict resolution skills and diplomacy for consensus building. Tolerance for ambiguity and comfort working in a matrixed organizational model.
Fellowship training in Clinical informatics
Previous project management and/or process improvement successes
Excellent verbal and written communications skills to effectively interact internally and externally. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail. Excellent problem-solving skills to address difficult, complex issues.
Strong interpersonal skills that reflect courtesy, diplomacy, and a collaborative approach to develop and maintain effective work relationships.
Proven understanding of collaborative decision making and communication processes.
