Job Title: Activities Coordinator - Memory Care Department Location: Park Springs Shifts: 8:30a-4:30p (Every other weekend) (Saturday & Sunday)
Job Description:
Position Overview: As the Activities Coordinator in the Memory Care Department at Park Springs, you will play a vital role in enhancing the quality of life for residents with memory-related challenges. Your primary responsibility will be to develop and implement engaging, individualized, and group activities that promote cognitive stimulation, social interaction, and emotional well-being. You will work closely with residents, families, and staff to create a supportive and enriching environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Activity Planning and Implementation: - Design, organize, and facilitate a variety of activities tailored to the interests and abilities of residents with memory impairments, including arts and crafts, music therapy, games, and outdoor activities. - Schedule daily, weekly, and monthly programs, ensuring a balance of structured and unstructured activities.
Resident Engagement: - Foster meaningful connections with residents by encouraging participation and adapting activities to meet their unique needs. - Build strong relationships with residents to understand their preferences and create personalized experiences.
Collaboration: - Work collaboratively with nursing staff, therapists, and family members to ensure a holistic approach to resident care. - Attend care planning meetings and provide insights on residents' social and emotional needs.
Documentation and Reporting: - Maintain accurate records of resident participation and feedback to evaluate the effectiveness of activities. - Prepare reports and documentation as required for compliance and quality improvement.
Training and Support: - Provide guidance and training to staff and volunteers involved in activities to ensure a safe and supportive environment. - Stay informed about best practices in memory care activities and incorporate new ideas into programming.
Community Engagement: - Establish partnerships with local organizations, schools, and community groups to enhance activity offerings and promote social interaction.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Recreation Therapy, Gerontology, Psychology, or a related field preferred. - Previous experience working with older adults, particularly those with memory impairments, in a care setting. - Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to connect with residents and families. - Creative and organized, with excellent planning and problem-solving abilities. - Knowledge of therapeutic activities and their benefits for individuals with dementia and other memory-related conditions. - CPR and First Aid certification is a plus.
Working Conditions: - Must be able to engage with residents in various settings, including indoors and outdoors. - Some physical activity may be required, including lifting, bending, and assisting residents as needed.
