Responsibilities

The Manager, Employee Relations manages the relationship between the organization and its employees to foster a positive, fair, and productive work environment. Responsibilities include resolving conflicts, investigating grievances, ensuring compliance with labor laws and company policies; and developing strategies and programs to improve employee engagement and communication. Supervises employees dedicated to employee relations areas and ensures all employee relations practices are applied consistently across USA Health. Works closely with USA Health leadership, the General Counsel's office and University Administration ensuring that decisions are ethical and align with the business, and HR mission, vision and values.

Oversees the day-to-day operations of all aspects of employee relations; performance evaluations, discipline, conflict resolution & grievance management, policy and compliance, employee engagement, management guidance, workplace investigation, and policy development. Oversees and conducts EEO investigations; collects information through interviews, data collection, analysis, and review of records; counsel's investigation complainants and participants in proper procedures and requirements; records and transcribes interviews; prepares reports; keeps supervisor abreast of findings through frequent updates; retains and organizes all pertinent records; ensures thorough and timely completion of investigations, as assigned; recommends actions to supervisor; stays abreast of relevant state and federal laws; and ensures confidentiality of information, based on business need to know; and prepares annual EEO related reports. Ensures USA Health applicable leadership are up-to date on complex employee relations matters. Prepares and facilitates presentations related to all areas of Employee Relations and EEO for various audiences. Maintains all employee relations materials, procedures and policies. Interprets and explains employee relations policies, procedures to department heads and employees. Supervises professional and support staff to include assigning duties, checking work, preparing job performance evaluations, approving time off and handling disciplinary issues. Researches and assists in the development and writing of human resources policies and procedures where employee relations areas are applicable. Conducts related surveys/analysis of plans as needed to ensure practices, procedures and policies remain up to date and comparable to peer institutions. Develops reports and presents information to HR and USA Health applicable leadership related to employee relations trends. Maintains a collaborative partnership with all other HR managers to ensure appropriate resources are available to support employee relations efforts. Maintains a collaborative partnership with the General Division Employee Relations office to ensure application of policies are consistent. Participates in institutional events or committees to promote a positive image of the Employee Relations office. Maintain and respect the confidentiality of information to abide by the regulations regarding privacy and security as mandated by state law, federal law and institutional policies. Conducts special projects and surveys as assigned. Regular and prompt attendance. Ability to work schedule as defined and additional hours as required. Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in human resources management or related field from an accredited institution as approved and accepted by the University of South Alabama, and four years of progressively responsible human resources experience which included handling employee relations. Experience working in a healthcare setting is highly preferred.

Strong knowledge of employment laws and regulations, including experience in conducting investigations and managing employee relations issues. Excellent communication, interpersonal, and conflict-resolution skills. Excellent computer skills, writing skills, with the ability to draft clear, concise, and professional communications, reports, and documentation. Ability to handle sensitive information with discretion and maintain confidentiality. Ability to manage and prioritize multiple responsibilities. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to make sound decisions based on data and judgment.
