Associate Director, MarTech & Retention Marketing
We are seeking an experienced and strategic Associate Director (AD), MarTech & Retention Marketing to lead the execution and advancement of our digital marketing technology, retention communications, and reporting infrastructure. This role will manage a cross-functional team responsible for delivering high-impact digital experiences across web, email, and SMS, ensuring alignment with brand strategy and business goals. The ideal candidate is an IT and tech-forward leader with marketing experience and a firm grasp of MarTech solutions, with a data-driven mindset. The AD will own the roadmap for digital experience execution and MarTech development, partnering closely with IT, brand, and growth teams to drive performance and scale capabilities. This role supports key retention marketing initiatives for St. George’s University (SGU) and Rocky Vista University (RVU) and will work across U.S., Canada, and international markets.
Essential Functions
Team Leadership & Project Management
Lead and develop a team of 4+, including 2 web developers, an email senior specialist, and a marketing coordinator
Oversee MarTech and marketing project timelines and prioritization across internal stakeholders to ensure brand marketing plans are executed accurately and efficiently
Drive operational excellence, scalability, and innovation in execution processes
Act as the primary liaison between marketing, strategy, and IT on the delivery of digital projects and platform enhancements
Marketing Technology Strategy & Roadmap
Own and drive the MarTech roadmap with a focus on AI, overseeing the implementation and optimization of tools for websites, creative, content, automation, segmentation, analytics, and personalization
Evaluate MarTech platforms and vendor relationships in collaboration across all departments in marketing and IT
Ensure seamless integrations between marketing tools, CRM systems, and web platforms to support omnichannel marketing
Continuously assess and evolve the MarTech stack to support future-state goals with a focus on AI solutions
Website Ownership & Digital Innovation
Own the website development and coding strategy for SGU and RVU, ensuring performance, usability, and brand consistency
Ensure the team is managing day-to-day calendar needs and requests from the new marketing workflows and campaign executions
Manage the website agency budget in coordination with finance, ensuring efficient use of resources and alignment with business goals
Lead the transition to and partnership with a new external web development agency, managing project timelines, deliverables, and quality
Evaluate and implement new web technologies that enhance performance, scalability, and engagement, including interactive tools and personalization
Partner with IT to ensure architecture and integrations align with long-term digital strategy and MarTech stack
Retention Marketing Execution
Support and lead the execution of multi-touch lifecycle campaigns across email, SMS, and website channels to drive retention and conversion
Ensure campaign segmentation, scheduling, testing, and personalization follow best practices and are aligned to performance goals
Develop and refine automation strategies across the lifecycle to maximize engagement and lead nurturing
Monitor audience journeys and optimize delivery across touchpoints based on performance insights
Performance Reporting & Insights
In partnership with IT, roll out new reporting tools and frameworks to better capture and visualize performance, audience behavior, and ROI
Oversee monthly reporting to share with leadership on website, email, and SMS reporting
Other Duties as Assigned
Essential Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Strong understanding of modern web technologies like Adobe and Testing tools
Experience with setting up or managing marketing automation platforms (e.g., Salesforce Marketing Cloud, Marketo, Constant Contact, Braze, Iterable)
Strong cross-functional leadership and stakeholder communication skills
Familiarity with marketing data and reporting tools (e.g., Google Analytics, Looker Studio, Power BI, Tableau)
Qualifications
15-20 years of experience in IT MarTech development, project management, or marketing technology expert
Proven success in managing web development strategy, digital agency partnerships, and associated budgets
Experience in education or healthcare industries is a plus
Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, Information Systems, or a related field; advanced degree preferred
Work Environment/Physical Demands
This job is performed at a workstation in a positive, creative and collaborative environment that may sometimes become quite noisy.
This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets.
Hours and Travel
A typical work week is 37.5 hours Monday through Friday 9am to 5pm.
This job may require occasional travel as appropriate for department initiatives.
The anticipated salary range for the Associate Director, MarTech & Retention Marketing is $142,800 to $168,000 per year. The final salary offered may vary and will be determined based on factors such as job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and education of the successful candidate. This information is provided per NYS local law.
