EPUKI are recruiting for a Senior Infrastructure Engineer based at our EPUKI Leeds office. The Senior Infrastructure Engineer is responsible for architecting, implementing, and maintaining robust IT infrastructure solutions across hybrid cloud and on-premises environments. This role bridges traditional infrastructure management with modern cloud technologies, ensuring seamless integration between legacy systems and cloud-native solutions. The position requires managing complex environments while maintaining high availability, security, and performance standards across all infrastructure components. The role encompasses both strategic infrastructure planning and hands-on technical delivery, requiring collaboration with diverse stakeholders to align infrastructure capabilities with business objectives. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in the organisation's IT modernisation initiative, facilitating the transition from a traditional environment to a hybrid model. This includes managing cost, ensuring regulatory compliance, and optimising processes. This is a hybrid-working role, with the expectation to be present at the office for a minimum of two days per week. Key Responsibilities
Design and maintain hybrid infrastructure solutions, integrating on-premises VMware environments with cloud services, while ensuring alignment with business goals and security standards. Administer VMware and Windows Server environments, managing virtualisation, lifecycle, capacity planning, and supporting legacy server platforms. Implement and manage Azure cloud services, including compute, storage, networking, security, and hybrid connectivity (e.g., VPN, Azure Arc). Utilise Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools such as ARM templates, Terraform, and Azure DevOps for consistent and automated deployments. Ensure operational excellence through proactive monitoring, patching, performance optimisation, and capacity planning across hybrid environments. Automate infrastructure tasks and system processes using scripting languages like PowerShell and Python to improve efficiency and reduce manual effort. Lead and support infrastructure-related projects, collaborating with stakeholders, managing timelines, and providing technical expertise and mentorship. Respond to and resolve incidents, performing root cause analysis and implementing preventative measures to ensure system stability and resilience. Join the emergency out-of-hours team to cover high-priority incidents on a rotating one-in-seven basis. Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
Background Substantial experience in infrastructure engineering roles with increasing levels of responsibility (essential). Proven track record of managing complex infrastructure projects from conception to delivery (essential). Experience working in fast-paced environments with multiple concurrent projects and competing priorities (essential). Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in cross-functional teams and matrix organisational structures (essential). Behaviours Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities with attention to detail. Commitment to continuous learning and staying current with emerging technologies. Adaptable and resilient, with the ability to remain effective under pressure, embrace change, and quickly adjust to shifting priorities and technologies. Proactive and flexible team player, capable of managing multiple tasks, taking initiative, and contributing to continuous improvement across diverse projects. Availability for occasional out-of-hours work for maintenance windows and incident response. Qualifications Relevant degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or equivalent professional experience (essential). Microsoft Azure certifications (AZ-104, AZ-305, or equivalent) (highly desirable). VMware certifications (VCP, VCAP, or equivalent) (desirable). Microsoft Windows Server certifications (desirable). ITIL Foundation or equivalent service management framework knowledge (desirable).
