https://www.cdph.ca.gov Educational pay differential: Candidates in classifications where a Master’s Degree is required to meet the minimum qualifications shall receive an educational pay differential equivalent to 2% of their monthly base pay. Those where a Doctoral Degree is required shall receive an educational pay differential equivalent to 3% of their monthly base pay. Individuals with both a Master’s and Doctoral Degree will be given the best benefit in relation to salary and shall be eligible for only one amount. Responsibilities and scope

This position supports the California Department of Public Health’s (CDPH) mission and strategic plan by acting as the direct supervisor of the research scientist staff in the Genetic Disease Screening Program (GDSP), Laboratory Services Branch (LSB), a CLIA-certified genetic screening laboratory. The Research Scientist Supervisor (RSS) II (Chemical Sciences) provides scientific technical expertise and administrative guidance to scientific and non-scientific personnel who are developing (or assisting with the development of) functions within the Genetic Disease Screening Laboratory Training Program. The program aims to develop and maintain staff knowledge for prenatal and newborn screening in CDPH laboratories within the California Public Health Laboratory Program. Duties include working with the training committee, coordinators, trainers, and partners to ensure timely delivery of training and laboratory materials, completion of documents, communication, and reporting of training updates. This position also collaborates with CDPH labs, GDSP’s Operational Support Section (OSS), vendors, guest trainers, trainees, and other training program partners for the collaborative training program and other special projects. The work follows laboratory standard operating procedures, proper communication, and adherence to CDPH and GDSP LSB policies and procedures to ensure smooth operations and CLIA compliance. The incumbent provides scientific technical expertise and consultation to departmental management and others as requested. Travel may be required for this position. Reimbursement for travel takes into consideration an employee’s designated headquarters, as reflected in the duty statement, and is subject to regulations and bargaining unit contract provisions. All commute expenses to the designated headquarters office will be the responsibility of the selected candidate. Minimum Requirements
