The City of Denton is seeking candidates for a wastewater collection position. The salary range is $14.10 to $18.79 hourly. The location is Denton, TX, and the job type is full-time. The department is Wastewater Collections, and the closing date is continuous. Definition: Responsible for the maintenance and construction of sewer lines throughout the city Essential Functions: Operates light to medium-sized motorized equipment such as dump truck, bobcat, backhoe, mowing tractors, front-end loader and combo flushing truck in the performance of construction maintenance or repair of water and wastewater lines Performs manual and semi-skilled tasks incidental to equipment operation such as locating and repairing water or sewer lines, laying new water or sewer lines, mowing and maintenance of sewer easements Inspects and checks operation of equipment before and after use and reports problems to supervisor; performs minor equipment maintenance activities Performs various skilled duties using hand tools such as a pick and shovel to locate underground water and sewer lines Operates power tools such as target saw to cut pipe and hydraulic jack hammer to break up concrete Performs duties in a confined space such as manholes and trenches Responsible for on-call after hours emergencies for sewer chokes, sewer line repairs, investigation of customer complaints, etc. on a rotating basis Additional Duties: Performs other duties as assigned Minimum Qualifications/Acceptable Equivalency: High school diploma or GED equivalent One year of experience in water utilities field operations Must possess a valid Class "A" CDL or the ability to obtain one within 60 days of employment OR Any combination of related education, experience, certifications and licenses that will result in a candidate successfully performing the essential functions of the job Core Competencies: Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing Ability to form and maintain effective relationships with coworkers and customers Ability to maintain regular and punctual attendance Ability to read and understand reference books and complicated procedures such as utility plans and equipment operation manuals Conditions of Employment: Must possess or be able to obtain a Class I Wastewater Certification within 1 year of employment Must pass a drug test, driver's license check, criminal history background check, and social security verification number Must pass a physical examination Must be able to work Monday through Friday from 7:00am to 3:30pm Must be able to work on-call shifts and overtime as needed Preferences: Bilingual in Spanish and English.
