Segal AmeriCorps Education Award of $1,956.35 upon successful completion of position. Living Allowance of $600.00 per week. Relocation Allowance of $450.00 (distributed as a one-time lump sum with first paycheck) Student Loan Forbearance if applicable (administered by MyAmeriCorps, directly). This GIS Assistant is an AmeriCorps position. The Division of Science and Resource Management at Grand Teton National Park has launched a new Spatial Strategy to increase the explicit incorporation of existing spatial data about the Parks natural resources into park management and planning. A biologist position has been created to implement this effort, and the Spatial Strategy has been identified as a key action for Grand Teton National Park in 2026. The Scientist in Parks position will help progress this effort at a pivotal time in the projects lifespan. Description of Duties
This position will work closely with biologists in the Fish and Wildlife Branch to build a data catalog, conduct basic spatial analyses, and produce spatial data products using datasets pertaining to Grand Tetons fish and wildlife populations. Tasks include data inventorying, cataloging, and quality control, with opportunities for spatial analyses addressing questions relevant to park management. Projects can be tailored to the SIP participants interests and there may be occasional field projects to better understand the natural resources underlying the data. United States citizen, United States national, or a lawful permanent resident High school diploma or equivalent; or agrees to obtain prior to using the education award Eligibility information and background checks required (National Service Criminal History Check and government security background check for NPS site location) Available to participate for 12 weeks Preferred Qualifications
Proficiency using ESRI GIS software, spreadsheets, and relational databases Basic skills and interest in data analysis Ability to work well in an office setting Bachelor or Associate Degree related to Biology, Natural Resource Management, or Computer Science Experience using R or Power BI is a bonus Additional Position and Community Information
Position setting: Grand Teton National Park headquarters, Moose, Wyoming. Moose is about 15 miles from Jackson, Wyoming. Applicants should be comfortable living and driving in a winter environment and working at a computer for extended periods, with opportunities to work outside.
