The Certified Nursing Aide - Unit Support Associate provides care appropriate to the patient population served and daily routine patient care needs under the direction of a licensed professional nurse (nurse). The CNA-USA performs duties based on the unit care delivery model and collaborates with the interdisciplinary team to deliver care as outlined by the nurse. Duties may include serving as a health unit coordinator, monitor tech, or performing secretarial or clerical tasks for unit leadership, or other specialized duties as unit needs dictate. The CNA-USA adheres to Centra’s best practices for quality and service, maintains a safe patient environment, and contributes to a healthy work environment. Practices reflect Virginia laws and regulations governing Certified Nurse Aide duties. Responsibilities
Provides and documents patient care under the direction of the registered or licensed practical nurse, including activities of daily living (meals, bathing, ambulating, toileting, turning/repositioning) and monitoring vital signs and intake/output. Promotes patient comfort by answering call lights and communicating observations or patient needs to the nursing staff. Contributes to safe and efficient admission, transfer, and/or discharge processes. Maintains patient rights to comfort, privacy, and dignity during care. Maintains a clean and safe environment on the unit and in patient rooms to protect patients from harm. Communicates and collaborates with staff, families, and other departments; serves as liaison to aid communication. Coordinares communications involving calls, pages, nurse call system, and other modalities. Follows organizational policies and procedures in the delivery of care and interactions with other caregivers. May handle medications delivered by Pharmacy or via pneumatic tube system and transport to appropriate storage or to a qualified staff member (if applicable). Applies unit service excellence best practices when engaging with patients, visitors, physicians, and colleagues. Uses resources cost-effectively and participates in quality and performance improvement initiatives. Engages in ongoing professional development and adheres to Centra safety behaviors. Qualifications
Required Successful completion of a state-approved Nurse Aide education program. Must be certified as a Nurse Aide by the Virginia Department of Health Professions; holds a current American Heart Association BLS card. Preferred High School Diploma / GED. Addendums / Special Mentions
Certified Nursing Aide – Resource Team / Centra Internal Travel Team: At least 1 year of recent acute care experience. Certified Nursing Aide - Stroobants: Under RN supervision, performs patient care activities and supports cardiac monitoring; 1 year CNA experience; valid Virginia driver’s license; cardiology experience preferred. Certified Nursing Aide – Home Health: Home health aide services under physician order; minimum 12 hours of in-service training yearly; 1 year CNA experience; driver’s license; home health experience preferred; travel up to 100%. Certified Nursing Aide - Hospice: 1 year CNA experience; hospice or homecare experience preferred; travel up to 100%. Seniority level
