Job Title: Senior Safety Methodology Engineer

Compensation: $67 - $110 hourly

About This Opportunity

System One is seeking to place a Senior Safety Methodology Engineer with our client, a leading organization in the nuclear energy sector. You will join the client’s methodology team to develop and defend Design Basis Accident (DBA) methods and support licensing efforts for advanced reactor systems.

Responsibilities

Collaborate with the client’s application methodology lead to craft and refine modeling techniques used in DBA events

Prepare and document analytic methodology reports, defending assumptions, biases, and best estimate approaches

Conduct sensitivity studies using RELAP5, SAS, GOTHIC, or similar codes to validate methodology performance

Benchmark and validate codes per regulatory processes like EMDAP and NuReg 1.203

Assist in modifying methodology studies to support reactor licensing and design efforts

Required Qualifications

Educational background: B.S. (+10 years), M.S. (+7 years), or Ph.D. (+5 years) in nuclear, mechanical, or related engineering/science fields

Demonstrated experience with transient safety analysis, methodology development, and system modeling

Knowledge of Licensing Basis Events, DBA topical requirements, and Reg Guide 1.203

Strong thermal hydraulic and transient system modeling skills

Experience with code validation & verification in nuclear safety applications

Excellent technical writing, communication, and ability to work collaboratively in multi disciplinary teams

Integrity, openness, and a commitment to high quality and professionalism

Working Conditions & Physical Requirements

Extended periods of sitting/standing; occasional bending, gripping, fine motor tasks

Ability to safely handle up to 25 lbs

Repetitive work and visual/auditory focus tasks

Standard office environment, 8+ hours/day with minimal travel (0–5%)
