The Senior Safety Methodology Engineer will work with the methodology team to deliver the Design Basis Accident without fuel failure topical report and supporting methodologies to defend the evaluation model.

Key items will be using analytic, supporting code calculations, and sensitivity methods to defend biases, conservatisms, and best estimate approaches for the Natrium design.

Responsibilities:

Work with application methodology lead to develop/modify standardized general modeling methodology supporting downstream base model development for application in design basis accident events for Natrium. Develop and document analytic calculation/methodology reports to defend methodology. Develop and document sensitivity studies using RELAP5, SAS, or GOTHIC to demonstrate efficacy of methodology approach. Develop and document code benchmarking and validation analyses to support code qualification and methodology development using RELAP5-3D following the EMDAP process (NuReg 1.203). Develop/modify and document methodology studies to aid in licensing of Natrium. Preferred Qualifications and Skills:

B.S. (+ 10 years), M.S. (+7 years), or PhD (+ 5 year) in nuclear, mechanical, or another related engineering/scientific field. Demonstrated experience with the development of transient safety analysis modeling methodologies, including system code base model methodology development and event-specific transient safety analysis methodology development. Familiarity with Licensing Basis Events and DBA topical requirements. Demonstrated application of Reg Guide 1.203 to nuclear reactor safety calculations. Strong thermal-hydraulic analytical skills with one dimensional hydraulic network analysis, system codes experience and transient analysis. Familiarity with code V&V and associated regulatory requirements. Knowledgeable in nuclear systems thermal-hydraulic, reactor dynamics, and transient phenomena. Experience with nuclear power plant design or operations a plus. Experience with commercial nuclear power plant licensing a plus. Experience in working in multi-disciplinary engineering teams to address engineering challenges. Strong technical writing skills. Effective communication skills.
