Telecommunications Utility Worker II
The City of Sherwood is hiring for a journey-level Telecommunications Utility Worker II position. This role involves performing a variety of skilled manual tasks to maintain the City's telecommunications utility infrastructure. The position includes the operation, maintenance, and repair of various public works equipment. It may also involve training and orientation to volunteers, students, and newly assigned personnel on site policies and practices. This position may be filled at the Telecommunications Utility Worker I level, subject to licenses and qualifications. Distinguishing Characteristics:
This position is distinguished from the Telecommunications Utility Worker III by the requirement to hold a commercial driver license (CDL) and other assignment-specific certifications. Essential duties include the installation, maintenance, inspection, and repair of City Telecommunication fiber cable, troubleshooting physical connectivity issues, performing emergency repairs to the fiber optic network, and operating various public works equipment. The position also requires maintaining and organizing tool rooms, conducting preventative maintenance on small engine equipment, responding to emergency situations, and maintaining cooperative working relationships with City staff and the general public. Typical qualifications include knowledge of the proper operation and maintenance of vehicles, tools, and equipment, practices, methods, hazards, and safety precautions used in the maintenance and repair of City infrastructure. The position requires the ability to interact effectively with the public and employees, operate all required vehicles and equipment, and use a variety of hand tools. Education typically includes a high school diploma or equivalent, and experience includes one year of relevant experience or any satisfactory combination of experience and training. Special requirements include possession of a valid Drivers License and Class A Oregon Commercial Drivers License, current CPR/First Aid card, and Work Zone Traffic Safety certification. Ability to obtain a Forklift certification and Competent Person certification within six months of appointment is also required.
