Responsibilities

Optical Network Design for AI Systems: Collaborate with stakeholders to determine customer requirements for optical networking in AI systems. Lead the design and development of optical network components, focusing on optical direct-detection and coherent technologies, to meet customer and technical requirements. Create design documents detailing the architectural blueprint for optical solutions optimized for AI applications. Testing and Validation: Conduct rigorous testing and validation of optical systems and components. Use automation to establish test cases, identify gaps in coverage, and ensure transceivers’ high-performance compatibility with AI applications. Code Implementation and Optimization: Develop, optimize, debug, and refactor code for management and automation of optical networks, emphasizing scalability and efficiency in AI-driven environments. Project and Feature Leadership: Apply expertise in coherent and direct-detection optical technologies to steer project and release plans in coordination with project managers and stakeholders, aligning plans with AI-optimized optical networking goals. Operational Readiness and Incident Management: Act as the Designated Responsible Individual (DRI) during on-call rotations, respond to incidents with significant customer or business impact, troubleshoot, deploy fixes, and coordinate with multiple teams. Implement automation to prevent recurrence and contribute to postmortem reviews. Telemetry and Data Analysis: Monitor telemetry for AI-optimized optical networks and leverage data analytics to detect patterns and issues, informing product and service improvements. Continuous Improvement: Stay current with trends in optical networking and AI, applying new knowledge and best practices to improve availability, reliability, efficiency, and scalability.

Qualifications

Required/Minimum Qualifications: Doctorate Degree in Electrical Engineering, Optical Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field OR Master’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Optical Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field AND 3+ years of technical experience in network design, development, and automation OR Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Optical Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field AND 4+ years of technical experience in network design, development, and automation OR equivalent experience 3+ years of experience in lab testing and bringing designs to production Other Requirements: Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements, including Microsoft Cloud Background Check at hire/transfer and every two years thereafter. Additional or Preferred Qualifications: Doctorate Degree in Electrical Engineering, Optical Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field AND 3+ years of experience in network design, development, and automation OR Master’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Optical Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field AND 6+ years of experience in network design, development, and automation OR Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Optical Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field AND 8+ years of experience in network design, development, and automation OR equivalent experience 1+ year of experience delivering network designs into production and live site accountability for a network

Compensation and Additional Details

Cloud Network Engineering IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD 119,800 - 234,700 per year. Some locations have different ranges (San Francisco Bay Area and New York City metro) with base pay ranges of USD 158,400 - 258,000 per year. Benefits and additional compensation may apply.
