Overview

Under the supervision of the Collection Supervisor, assumes responsibility for practical oversight of trainees. This process includes teaching, direct observation, and on-going evaluation of performance of staff through a mentoring process. Monitors the collection activities to ensure compliance with SOPs. Serves as a resource for donor eligibility and phlebotomy complications. Promotes positive image of CBC to the community Responsibilities

Performs donor interview and evaluates suitability of donor for donation based on current SOP criteria. Attends to donors comfort and safety post donation, including those having reactions or complications to the procedure, and notifying the collection supervisor. Maintains confidentiality of all information regarding donors. Performs competently all tasks and responsibilities of Donor Care Technician I, II & III. Performs apheresis procedures. Labels all blood collection materials according to SOP. Cares for blood after collection, including prep for transport, temporary storage and transportation to the center. Performs data entry of collections into BECS (Blood Establishment Computer System), as applicable. Performs daily QC on equipment and documents performance. Maintains prompt and regular attendance. Serves as a role model and mentor to new employees to ensure their performance meets all standards and regulatory requirements. Orients new staff to the workplace and helps them achieve a level of comfort in that setting and serves as a resource to new staff. Demonstrates technical procedures to new staff and new procedures to incumbent staff. Observes new staff for competency in performing tasks and following SOPs and observes incumbent staff for continued compliance to SOPs. Communicates closely with Training and Development Specialists regarding progress and needs of new staff. Reviews staff completed work for accuracy and completion, and co-signs applicable documents. Ensures completion of training records and forwarding of same in a timely manner to Training and Development Specialists (as applicable). Assists with competency assessments and remedial training. Complies with CBC safety policies and procedures. Qualifications

Education: High school diploma or equivalent. Medical Assistant degree strongly preferred. Phlebotomy certificate preferred. Experience: Prefer an individual with at least 12 months experience in Blood collection Phlebotomy CBC, FDA, AABB and OSHA regulations
