Summary You will serve as an Interdisciplinary Engineer/Scientist in the Research & Development Group, Weapons & Energetics Department of NAVAIRWARCENWPNDIV CHINA LAKE. Responsibilities You will develop safety qualification plans for various in-service and developmental weapons systems across the Navy portfolio. You will be responsible for technical knowledge and guidance in the development, testing, and qualification of IM technology for systems containing multiple energetic subcomponents. You will have In-depth awareness of IM qualification requirements and processes to meet DoD law/policy regarding munitions safety. You will aid program offices in identifying/developing technical approaches, funding streams, and program plans for development, testing, qualification, and transition of IM technologies into the fleet. You will act as an advocate to balance technology needs, funding limitations, schedule requirements, and performance requirements to help program offices deliver capable weapons that maximize safety without sacrificing performance requirements. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications In addition to the Basic Requirements for this position, your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-12/13) or pay band (DP-04) in the federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector in order to perform the duties of an Interdisciplinary Engineer/Scientist. Specialized experiences must include duties related to the following: (1) Performing work related to project/program management; (2) Training and developing junior and journey-level engineers and leading teams in accomplishing technical and programmatic tasking; (3) Performing work related to existing and state-of-the-art insensitive munitions design and testing technologies, analysis processes, result verification, and system qualification; and (4) Utilizing safety approval requirements through WSESRB, NOSSA, DDESB, JSIMTP. Education Applicants must meet the following positive education qualifications requirements of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualifications Standards Manual: Applicants must possess 08XX Series: Successful completion of a Degree in Engineering. To be acceptable, the program must: (1) lead to a bachelor's degree in a school of engineering with at least one program accredited by ABET; or (2) include differential and integral calculus and courses (more advanced than first-year physics and chemistry) in five of the following seven areas of engineering science or physics: (a) statics, dynamics; (b) strength of materials (stress-strain relationships); (c) fluid mechanics, hydraulics; (d) thermodynamics; (e) electrical fields and circuits; (f) nature and properties of materials (relating particle and aggregate structure to properties); and (g) any other comparable area of fundamental engineering science or physics, such as optics, heat transfer, soil mechanics, or electronics OR A combination of education and experience -- college-level education, training, and/or technical experience that furnished (1) a thorough knowledge of the physical and mathematical sciences underlying engineering, and (2) a good understanding, both theoretical and practical, of the engineering sciences and techniques and their applications to one of the branches of engineering. 1310 Series: Successful completion of a Degree in physics OR Successful completion of a related degree that included at least 24 semester hours in physics. OR A combination of education and experience -- courses equivalent to a major in physics totaling at least 24 semester hours, plus appropriate experience or additional education. The courses must have included a fundamental course in general physics and, in addition, courses in any two of the following: electricity and magnetism, heat, light, mechanics, modern physics, and sound.
