The Foster Program is one of the major programs enabling PAWS Chicago to save lives and is an extremely important role at PAWS Chicago as we grow. The role of the Foster Coordinator is to oversee the process of placing and managing animals in outside foster care whether for medical, space, behavioral or other reasons. This position has an extensive amount of interfacing with our foster volunteer base. As a Foster Coordinator of the Medical Center Foster Team, you will collaborate with a diverse group of individuals across the organization and operate out of our recently remodeled Medical Center, the nations largest hospital for homeless animals, located in the Little Village (3516 W 26th St). Our medical center is where every PAWS animal journey starts. This 30,000 square foot, state of the art facility is central to our mission, with the greatest number of staff operating out of this PAWS location to cater to the needs and lifesaving efforts of hundreds of animals daily! Duties and Responsibilities Foster Volunteer Management & Support Assure that all foster volunteers receive the necessary training and support to perform their foster care responsibilities. Provide ongoing guidance and mentorship and support to foster homes. This includes connecting fosters with trainers, providing supplies, communicating medical concerns to veterinarians, emergency care support, and helping to maintain the morale of foster families Track long-term & short-term fosters ensuring medication and vaccinations are always kept up to date Respond to medical or behavioral emergencies of foster parents and relay information in a timely manner to and from the medical team and/or animal operations team Regularly monitor PAWS Chicago Foster Facebook group for medical or behavioral concerns needing to be addressed Schedule appointments for animal pick-ups, rechecks and/or drop offs in alignment with resources and time availability Effectively escalate any matters requiring management awareness or involvement Foster Animal Placement Screen applications and determine whether candidates are following PAWS Chicagos prerequisites for fostering Be sure to respond to all new foster applications within 24 hours of receipt and set up appointments as soon as foster availability allows Review animals medical and behavioral needs to best match with an appropriate foster parent and environment Interact daily with the Shelter Medicine Team, Intake Team, Behavior Team, Internals Team, and Animal Care Team to ensure all information is up to date prior to sending animals into foster homes Work to meet or exceed the goals set for efficient timeframes of placing animals into foster when flagged as priorities by the Medical and/or Behavior Teams Customer Service Provide a warm and welcoming demeanor to fosters during pick up or medical appointments Exude professionalism and organization when managing upstairs & downstairs foster lobbies Respond to all routine and non-emergency emails and voice mails within 24 hours of receipt Ensure lobby and foster area is neat, foster food storage area is stocked, and relevant foster and other program materials are stocked Other duties as assigned Seniority level
