Overview
Senior IT Systems Administrator position located in Clear Lake, TX. Saber Power Services, a portfolio company of Greenbelt Capital Partners, is a fully integrated electrical power system services firm serving utility, renewables and battery storage, industrial, petrochemical, and other markets. The Senior IT Systems Administrator is a strategic and technical leader responsible for ensuring the performance, security, and scalability of the organization's IT infrastructure. This role oversees advanced systems administration tasks, improves infrastructure reliability, and collaborates with cross-functional teams to support business goals. The position contributes to long-term IT planning and mentoring of junior team members. This role requires expert-level technical skills, strong project leadership, and a proactive mindset focused on continual improvement, cost efficiency, and minimizing downtime. Responsibilities
Infrastructure Strategy & Development
Develop and implement advanced network troubleshooting strategies to reduce downtime and control maintenance costs. Construct contingency plans and disaster recovery procedures to ensure continuity of service in the event of system failures. Create scalable strategies for upgrading network software, systems, and security infrastructure aligned with industry best practices. Stay current with emerging technologies and innovations in IT infrastructure; prepare and deliver quarterly reports and recommendations to executive leadership. Collaborate with department managers to assess evolving business needs, infrastructure growth, and technology requirements.
Systems Administration
Oversee and maintain mission-critical systems including Windows Server environments, Microsoft Azure, Office 365, Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, and VPN infrastructure. Design and manage secure networks, including site-to-site and client-based VPNs (e.g., Cisco AnyConnect, Fortinet, Unifi). Monitor system performance, patch management, and service availability; implement automation and monitoring tools for proactive system maintenance. Lead server builds, cloud migrations, backup/recovery strategies, and system audits to ensure optimal operation and compliance.
Team Leadership & Collaboration
Mentor junior system administrators and provide tier-3 escalation support. Act as a liaison between IT and other departments to support infrastructure-related initiatives. Coordinate and manage IT-related projects, timelines, and priorities in collaboration with leadership. Support help desk functions during escalated events or outages.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field required. Master’s degree or industry certifications (e.g., Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator Associate, CCNA, CompTIA Security+, CISSP) are a plus. Minimum of 7+ years of experience in IT systems administration, with progressive responsibility. Proven experience with:
Microsoft Azure and Office 365 administration (multi-tenant environments) Windows Server and Active Directory management VPN architecture, firewalls, and network security Disaster recovery, business continuity, and data backup solutions Engineering applications such as AutoCAD, PLSCADD, Bentley software, STAAD, Bluebeam (preferred) SQL database management (a plus)
Ability to travel, less than 10%, to support satellite offices as needed. Required Skills & Competencies
