Northrop Grumman Space Systems-Launch and Missile Defense Systems have an exciting career opportunity for a Principal Software Engineer to join our team of skilled and diverse professionals. This role, based in Colorado Springs, CO, is crucial in supporting the U.S. President, the Secretary of Defense, and combatant commanders at strategic, regional, and operational levels. This position does not offer relocation support and requires on-site work with no remote options. Position Overview: The Command and Control, Battle Management, and Communications (C2BMC) program is a vital part of the Missile Defense System. It provides an essential operational platform that allows the U.S. president, the secretary of defense, and combatant commanders at strategic, regional, and tactical levels to systematically plan missile defense operations, monitor battle progress, and actively manage networked sensors and weapon systems to achieve global and regional mission goals. C2BMC offers a layered missile defense capability, providing an optimized response to threats across all ranges and flight phases. It functions as a force multiplier by connecting, integrating, and synchronizing autonomous sensor and weapon systems and operations both worldwide and locally to improve overall performance. Additionally, C2BMC is a key component of all ground and flight tests that verify and demonstrate the missile defense system's current and future capabilities. This position is for a Principal Software Engineer on the C2BMC program, supporting the development of software for C2BMC and JEMINI. The selected candidate will be responsible for software development using Java. The selected candidate should have a solid understanding of basic software development practices, including coding standards and configuration management. Essential Functions: Responsible for conducting in-depth analysis and providing technical support for systems software products, including complex problem resolution, design, development, testing, operational integration, and user support Keeps software products current, debugs, and configures them Develops or modifies operating system applications based on specifications Assists with designing, coding, benchmarking, debugging, and documenting programs Collaborate with other system support teams to resolve issues, set standards, and improve the overall efficiency of the operating system Designs, codes, tests, and deploys tools for operations automation Handles most phases of software systems programming applications and may require guidance and instruction Basic Qualifications: Bachelor's Degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) discipline or a related field from an accredited university is preferred, along with 5 years of experience; or a Master's degree in a related field with 3 years of relevant work experience, or a PhD and 1 year of related experience; or 9 years of relevant work experience may be considered in lieu of a degree Ability and willingness to travel up to 10% to support business needs Applicants must have a current, active in-scope DoD issued Secret security clearance at the time of application, which is required to start with the eligibility to be cleared at the TS/SCI level. Experience with software engineering and development in Java/JEE is required. Experience with database design, management, and maintenance Familiarity with: Hibernate, SQL, PostgreSQL/Enterprise DB Experience using common software development & management tools such as: Git, Nexus, JIRA, Confluence, Maven or Gradle, Eclipse A good understanding of standard system engineering design artifacts such as Use Cases and UML diagrams Experience developing enterprise applications Familiarity with Java foundation classes and toolkits Knowledge of server-side/database development and computer system administration Experience working as part of an Agile team Preferred Qualifications: Current and active in-scope DoD-issued Top Secret / TS Applicants with a current active DoD 8140 certification at IAT Level II or higher (such as Security+, GSEC, SCNP, SSCP, CISSP, CISA, GSE, SCNA, etc.) are highly desired Flexibility and willingness to take on unanticipated tasking are highly desirable Command and control system application development Previous experience with message translation software Automated test and pipeline development experience desired Test-driven development Experience developing software for Unix/Linux and Windows platforms Experience with Software Integration testing, including developing automated test scripts Prior experience designing and developing microservices and deploying with containers Experience setting up a container environment Strong problem-solving skills, including the ability to review performance issues, identify root cause, recommend, and develop a solution Experience with Risk Management Framework/STIG/Fortify mitigation
