Overview As Communications Department Director, you’ll lead a dedicated team of speech-language pathologists and a symbol board technician, set departmental goals, and ensure that residents receive exceptional speech, language, and communication services. You’ll oversee clinical quality, mentor clinicians in creating innovative, person-centered programs, and promote the effective use of assistive technology. Through hands-on leadership, collaboration, and creative problem-solving, you’ll inspire your team to deliver services that enrich communication, independence, and overall quality of life for every resident.

Responsibilities The position involves leadership and management responsibilities within the Communications Department, ensuring high-quality clinical services and program development aligned with resident needs.

Qualifications

Experience evaluating and treating speech, language, and hearing disorders in adults and/or children with intellectual and developmental disabilities, including work with augmentative and alternative communication devices (AAC).

Experience supervising professional staff, conducting evaluations, and coordinating integrated treatment plans.

Demonstrated success collaborating with interdisciplinary teams (medical, nursing, OT, PT, special education).

Proven experience managing communication and swallowing disorders and understanding their impact on health and safety.

Uses clinical outcomes, quality metrics, and feedback to guide program improvements.

Demonstrates a strong commitment to providing meaningful, person-centered communication services.

Fosters a collaborative, team-oriented environment across disciplines.

Supports professional growth through coaching, mentorship, and constructive feedback.

Physical Requirements : Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. Visual acuity requirements include tasks such as data preparation, reading, and computer work.
