United Way of Clinton County works to improve lives by mobilizing the caring power of communities to advance the common good. Through strategic investments, partnerships and volunteer engagement, United Way of Clinton County focuses on education, financial stability and health – the building blocks for a good quality of life. By bringing together community members, nonprofits and businesses, United Way creates lasting change and a brighter future for Clinton County. Under the direction of the Board of Directors, the Executive Director is an exempt position under the FLSA. The Executive Director is responsible for all administrative, fundraising, funds distribution, operations, and community & donor relations for the organization.
Primary Responsibilities
The Executive Director serves as the CEO, appointed and employed by the Board of Directors. The Executive Director administers, coordinates, and directs the organization’s operations. Within the framework of the organization’s policies and by-laws, the Executive Director takes necessary actions to direct the day-to-day operations of the United Way of Clinton County, to implement the policies of the Board of Directors, and to perform the responsibilities of the job.
Specific Areas of Accountability
Leadership and Financial Management
Develop, implement, and maintain a process for establishing the strategic direction of the agency using long-term planning and measurable goals. An evaluation of the results of all planning should occur annually. Responsible for advancing the mission of the agency.
Funds Distribution
Implement the agency’s community impact plan to allocate available dollars in high impact/outcome programs and evaluate the results of those investments. Develop and maintain a community partner/program funding applications, evaluation criteria, and fund distribution process.
Community Relations
Develop appropriate partnerships with funded and potential community partners. This includes civic organizations, community foundations, local governments, media, and health and human service organizations. Develop and enhance positive relationships and communications with existing and potential Board members and volunteers in the community. Develop and implement appropriate training and support for those groups. Support and assist with the facilitation of the duties and responsibilities as requested by those groups.
Donor Relations
Enhance and develop positive relationships and communications with existing and potential donors.
Marketing & Communications
Develop and maintain a year-round marketing and communication strategy to promote broad support and awareness of the value of the United Way of Clinton County.
Human Resources & Development
Recruit, select, supervise, and retain staff as necessary. Evaluate performance in accordance with the policies of the organization and applicable laws.
Job Requirements
Excellent written and verbal communication skills that include proficiency in public speaking.
High level of discretion, ability, and accountability to perform tasks without direct supervision.
Fundraising experience is required
Ability to multi-task and work within guidelines
Ability to and experience in writing grants
A strong working knowledge of area non-profit agencies and of the United Way.
