Overview

The Senior Athletic Trainer (Sr. AT) will work primarily out of the Orthopaedic Institute on the Mission Bay Campus of UCSF. The Sr. AT will serve as the lead liaison to the Manager of Athletic Training Services in providing support for overseeing the AT staff. The position entails a clinical component of physician support, an outreach component of on-site athletic training services, and an administrative component of leading and assisting with program projects and events. Responsibilities

Clinically, serve as the clinic lead and assist with day-to-day operations in a specialty clinic. Oversee the AT staff and ensure day-to-day operations are completed efficiently. Room patients, assist in the patient intake process, and retrieve necessary records for patient visits. Provide physician support by assisting with patient education and post-operative procedures as requested. Assist with daily administration of clinic duties, troubleshoot problems for providers and staff, and perform other tasks as assigned. Outreach: provide on-site care for high school athletes and assist the Manager of AT with administrative sports medicine duties. Work independently or with Staff Athletic Trainers, attending physicians, and other staff to deliver sports medicine services for patients and athletes. Establish or maintain relationships with assigned schools to deliver athletic training services, including on-site care, sport event coverage, athlete health and safety education, and additional administrative duties. Mentoring and supporting AT staff at the schools, and ensuring sports medicine protocols and health and safety recommendations are followed at all PlaySafe schools. Administration: lead and assist with program and department projects and events, including planning support for high school screening exams and educational conferences, and provide coverage for educational community events. Fill in for the Manager of AT when needed to supervise AT staff and projects. Qualifications

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in a related field Five (5) years education and/or experience working as a certified athletic trainer Current and in good standing Athletic Trainer Certification (ATC) with the Board of Certification, Inc. Thorough knowledge of athletic injury prevention and the administration of therapeutic modalities, devices, and rehabilitation techniques. Ability to work collaboratively as a member of a multidisciplinary team Strong written and oral communication Excellent time management and organizational skills Thorough knowledge of medical terminology appropriate to job responsibilities Excellent interpersonal/communication skills to interact with a diverse patient population Strong familiarity with Microsoft Office programs Ability to provide first responder care at athletic events Experience with sports medicine/event coverage/first responder care of high school athletes or beyond Ability to maintain discretion and confidentiality in handling sensitive matters For positions associated with Sports Medicine, knowledge of applicable rules and standards of relevant athletic associations (NCAA/NAIA/CIF, etc.) and compliance with them at all times Preferred Qualifications

Advanced degree in related field Experience in a clinical setting with physicians and office assistants Strong manual therapy skills applicable to orthopedics and sports medicine Thorough knowledge of electronic medical records systems Project management experience License/Certification
