Overview

The University of California San Diego is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Associate Athletic Trainer/Director of Rehabilitation. UC San Diego, located in La Jolla, in the San Diego Metropolitan area, enrolls over 35,000 students and is one of the University of California’s 10 campuses. As an integral member of the Sports Medicine team and Athletic Performance Unit, the Associate Athletic Trainer/Director of Rehabilitation will provide leadership in year-round care of scholar-athletes, demonstrate professional maturity, and lead interdisciplinary collaboration in rehabilitation and reconditioning. Responsibilities

Provide administrative leadership of sports medicine programs and apply evidence-based practice to clinical and professional problem solving. Lead the sports medicine and athletic performance staff to ensure best practices in the design and implementation of return-to-sport programs tailored to individual scholar-athlete needs. Coordinate injury referrals to appropriate medical personnel and manage follow-up care. Oversee reconditioning and rehabilitation of scholar-athletes on physician referrals using appropriate physical agents and therapeutic devices. Collaborate with the performance coordinator to implement baseline measurements for injury prevention and return-to-sport assessments. Lead initial case management meetings with head coaches and program support staff on return-to-sport plans. Develop and implement policies and protocols for equipment use, injury prevention, treatments, screenings, and assessments. Be an approved preceptor for athletic training students from various Athletic Training Education Programs. Qualifications

Must have a minimum of seven years of experience in athletic training under direct supervision of an NATABOC-certified Athletic Trainer. Maintain current knowledge of applicable rules and standards of the affiliated athletic conference, NCAA or NAIA, and related associations; avoid violations. Advanced manual therapy skills applicable to orthopedics and sports medicine; proficient with athletic training aids and standard first aid procedures including CPR. Current certification in American Red Cross First Aid and CPR for the Professional Rescuer with AED, or equivalent; NATABOC certification in good standing; instructor certification in First Aid and CPR/AED highly preferred. Demonstrated supervisory skills with ability to motivate, delegate, train, supervise and evaluate staff and student employees. Advanced knowledge of athletic injury prevention, therapeutic modalities, and rehabilitation techniques; strong first-aid, equipment, and injury assessment skills. Experience with mental health screenings and plans; ability to work with students of concern. Strong teaching and coaching knowledge for student interns and various sports; familiarity with local, regional, and national athletic training organizations as they relate to UCSD programs. Computer skills relevant to job duties; experience with systems such as Smartabase and Catapult. Ability to maintain confidentiality and manage casework with a similar volume of sports. Excellent collaborative, organization, prioritization, and problem-solving abilities; strong written and verbal communication skills. Knowledge of procurement and campus budget requirements related to athletic equipment and supplies. Ability to multi-task and meet deadlines; professional demeanor and discretion when dealing with diverse populations. Effective interpersonal skills to work with athletes, physicians, faculty, staff, and the broader campus community; commitment to professionalism in attire, attitude, and communication. Knowledge of electronic medical records systems and local medical facilities for emergencies and referrals. Special Conditions

Pay Transparency Act: Annual Full Pay Range: $79,200 - $143,400 (prorated if appointment is less than 100%); Hourly equivalent: $37.93 - $68.68.
