Overview
The Pediatric Cardiac Anesthesiology Fellowship Program : 1-Year ACGME Fellow position at Children’s National Hospital, Washington D.C.
This one-year, ACGME-accredited Pediatric Cardiac Anesthesiology fellowship at Children’s National Medical Center is designed to provide the fellow with the knowledge and clinical experience to become an expert in the field and to provide anesthetic care for patients of all ages with congenital heart disease. The fellow is expected to achieve proficiency in all six ACGME core competencies as they relate to the pediatric cardiac anesthesiology program. The fellowship includes twelve one-month rotations at Children’s National Hospital and exposure to all settings where patients with congenital heart disease receive anesthesia, including the cardiac operating rooms, the cardiac catheterization lab, and the cardiac MRI. The program also provides rotations in Perfusion, Pediatric Echocardiography, and Pediatric Cardiac Critical Care. As the fellow progresses, greater responsibility and independence are expected. Upon successful completion, the fellow will be qualified to practice independently and be positioned as a leader in Congenital Cardiac Anesthesiology. Academic time is provided for research and scholarly endeavors.
Responsibilities The fellowship experience includes exposure to and experience in: cardiac operating rooms, the cardiac catheterization lab, and the cardiac MRI, with rotations in Perfusion, Pediatric Echocardiography, and Pediatric Cardiac Critical Care. The fellow will progressively assume greater responsibility and independence throughout the year, culminating in readiness to practice independently.
Qualifications
Successful completion of a one-year ACGME-approved pediatric anesthesiology fellowship or equivalent training.
Must have 2-3 letters of recommendation (one of which must be from the chairman or program director of the department where you trained).
Must have completed medical school in the U.S. or be ECFMG certified if an international medical graduate.
Must be able to obtain a District of Columbia unrestricted medical license prior to starting fellowship training.
Must have successfully passed all three steps of the USMLE.
Fellowship Start Dates December 1, 2024 (contingent upon completion of required training).
